Offline | Dead key? I've had my Mini for two days now and one of the keys seems to have died! It won't lock/un-lock the car. Totally unresponsive... Anybody hear of this before? Will Mini replace the key? |

| Loves the Fuzzy One | I haven't heard of it happening on the MINI, it may be just a dead battery. If the key is really bad I'm sure MINI will replace it. One thing, does the good key work when the bad key won't? The reason I ask is that in some areas with a lot of EMI, my remote key doesn't work. When I drive away the key works again in a lower EMI area. ![]() Global Moderator |

Offline | Can you start the car with the "dead" key? If so, it is just the transmitter. The old keys had a battery for the transmitter. I heard that the new ones are rechargeable and are charged up by driving with that key in the ignition. If so, you'll have to use the "dead" key for a bit to get it charged. The handbook will say what type of battery the car has. |

Offline | Yeah... The dead key could start the car, but that's all... Anyways, I took the car in and they replaced the key and reprogrammed the lock codes for free... They said it was a pretty strange occurence... |
