Question Has this happened to you???

Early this evening I had to attend a work meeting. When the meeting was over and I approached my car at the parking lot, I found out that the parking lights were on!
I checked the light switch and it was in the off position!...

So, I'm wondering what happened!!!

Has this happened to any of you before???

I didn't check really! Although, wouldn't those activate only one side at a time?...

Was your turn indicator on? I have noticed that if it is blinking, that light will stay on when you turn off the engine.

If your car is a facelift model with the new rear lights then it could be the brake lights that were on. This seems to be a common problem that MINI are aware of. It is intermittant and turning the lights on then off again normally makes them go out.
It's either a faulty column stalk or BC1 control unit.

Thanks!!! That might be it! I've just remembered that they were unusually bright to be just the parking lights! And just as you suggest, I actually turned the lights on and then off and they did turn off!

If it is a faulty column stalk or that BC1 Control Unit, should I take my car to warranty service???

My local dealer were told by mini uk to replace a doide. They ordered the part and couldn't find where to fit it so contacted mini uk for advice. Then told that 2005 model year (facelifted) cars don't have the diode only earlier cars do.
So the garage replaced my BC1.
This only happened a couple of days ago so can't say whether it's fixed the problem or not really yet. Hope so!

Please do! I went to the local MINI dealership to tell them about it, and apparently mine is the first MINI that they know that has this sort of problem!
