United-States clutch pedal

[color=Yellow]My 2005 cooper sometimes doesn't return the clutch pedal all the way. Instead it stop halfway and I have to retrieve the pedal manually.

The dealer is telling me that BMW has issue a technical bulletin ( m23 200 05 ) regarding that very problem. As of now they have not figure out how to fix it.

you seem to be all alone on this problem. If it were happening to me I would be doing some diving into the foot well to try to see what any part of the assembly was rubbing and where.Of immediate suspicion would be a floor mat that had somehow slid over to make contact with the assy. somewhere.Next would be the armature below the pedal where it goes through the floor. You may well have to jack up the car and do some creeper surfing with someone in the car depressing the pedal from the inside to see what may have come into contact with the assembly .there is probably some kind of return spring although I'm not sure if it's external or internal. If internal and you car is still under warrentee, go back to the dealer and get it fixed .If out of warrentee and only as a last resort ,install your own return spring if it's part and parcel of a problem at the clutch and you're out of warrentee, it's about $1500 to fix. Good luck.

Quick question - did you try leaving the car and then coming back a while later? I just had a new clutch and gearbox and 3 days later the clutch pedal dissapeared the same yours did - first half way and then eventually all the way to the floor. I left the car for 45 mins and when I came back the pedal was up again and working.... The dealer has not got a clue what might have gone wrong....
