Mini Clutch Probelm

When my Mini Cooper S was about a year old, a rare scratchy noise was occasionally heard when the clutch pedal is released while the car is moving away from stand still position.

Dealer could not find what is wrong but went ahead to replace the complete clutch lining under warranty claim. Problem surfaced again after 2 months from replacement. No solution and problem not fixed ever since.

Just about three weeks ago, I experienced burnt smell from the clutch. The car was immediately sent to service work shop for attention. The technical consultant and technical executive of Performance Motor Limited (PML), Singapore concluded that there is an excessive wear and tear under hard driving or otherwise They found numerous burnt marks on the clutch disc surface. The car is still under 3rd year warranty but PML told that this repair is not warrantable.

My wife owns the car. I am the only user of the car but never a hard driver and or a fast driver. Apparently problem of the clutch as evident from the noise from very beginning was not rectified ever since and had it led to present damage.

Can any one help with some professional opinions or suggestions??

I just noticed the same issue with my car too. Only from a stop.

There is a problem with the clutch - I had mine replaced under warranty and so have plenty of others. Not sure if the problem is exactly as you described as mine made more of a squeaking than a scraping but you'll find more information if you search the Faults & Fixes forum
