Offline | 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible Top BROKE Not more than 6 weeks after I got my new 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible, I was putting up the top in the usual manner when all of a sudden 1/4 of the way up, I heard a crack. Although the top was still operable, a cable snapped and a plastic part cracked. I brought the car into the dealer who has not seen this happen before. Has anyone else had this experience? They will be replacing the top (I complained of fading, but that is another story for another thread) and will only do a replacement as a one time courtesy. I was told that the plastic part and cable for the top is on order (it all looked like part of the top to me, but what do I know). Can anyone recommend a Mini dealer in the tri-state area where they were satisfied with the service department? Thank you! |

Offline | You're probably best off trying the Convertible Specific section of the site - Im sure a mod will move this there soon anyways ![]() There have been a number of early problems with the Convertible roof, tho your problem with a cable snapping is news (to me anyway). Most have reported the more common 'one side unclamps, one side doesnt' when opening the roof. (As per THIS thread for example). Cabrio owners may be able to shed more light on the subject. Best of luck ![]() - Global Moderator - MY BLOG - Global Procrastinator - ![]() ... Buying the 8C for its dynamic abilities is like buying a porn film for its plot ... |

Offline | As Scotty says, have a look in or more specifically search the Convertible section for this problem. I did a quick search with "roof and cable" and came up with this. I don't know about your replacement being a one time courtesy. Under warranty I believe they should fix it until it's right. Hopefully just the one time though Good luck ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |
