Offline | Supercharger Pulley Misalignment Hello everyone, Had a chirping noise at cold start last Tuesday. By Wednesday or Thursday it sounded as if a bearing was failing on the tensioner. Called the MINI dealer on Sat. because we were going up the mountains and I was afraid it would fail(had to take the minivan instead). They got me in this morning(50 miles away)and put me in a Ford, no MINI's availible. I just talked with the Service Adviser and he said they found the supercharger pulley must have been pressed on too far and the belt was making the noise. It was actually rubbing against the engine. He said that MINI would not let him just press it back in line and he now has to order a new supercharger from Germany (about a week). My S is a may build that I took delivery on 3 weeks ago-800 miles. Anyone have the same thing happen and how involved is the supercharger replacement? Thanks, Ed Sorry if there is something on this already but I did several searches and counld not find one. |

| 05 MCS BEP | I suspect this is what happened to my car too. But the dealer says he doesn't know what the problem was. He just replaced the supercharger and all is fine again. He says the original looked like it was running fine and he couldn't tell where the noise was coming from. Yours was a chirping sound? Mine was an outright rattle. More like the pulley and belt were banging up against the cover. But performance did not seem to be affected. Just a lot of noise. My dealer says this is very rare. He thinks it might have happened to only one other car in Calgary (Canada). I guess it's not that rare. I am curious as to your parts list of fan belt and antifreeze though. Also, it didn't take three weeks for a new supercharger to arrive. More like overnight and I had my car back by the afternoon the next day. I had a replacement car to drive while mine was in the shop. Good thing this is covered under warranty. It's a bit disconcerting. |
