Offline | High pitched squealing noise I just picked up my Mini last night, its great. At lunch today I noticed a high pitched squaling when I hit the gas. Its an S, and it gets better as I drive it. I've left a message for service to see if this is "normal". Its fairly loud though and I've got a MCSC and am planning a road trip this weekend. Any thoughts? edit: Sounds like a belt. edit again: I found the threads about the alternator belt tensioner adjustments, anyone know how long it took to make the adjustment/replace the part? |

Offline | Or it might be a improperly pressed super charger pulley! http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...86#post1787086 I posted on this a couple days ago. Dealer is waiting for a new supercharger. Should be fixed by next week, I'll update on it when I get it back and let you know if it fixed the problem. |

Offline | I hope it's not either but htings happen. I thought the same thing as you-a misaligned alt pulley or maybe even a bad tensioner but when they checked it-turned out to be the supercharger. I hope yours is something simple. |

| 05 MCS BEP | Fixed by next week??? My supercharger developed an annoying rattle and I brought my car to my dealer, he gave me his loaner (same color as mine too ) and had a new supercharger in my car the next day. He even ordered the supercharger from a warehouse on the other end of the country. As for the squeal, hopefully, the dealer just has to replace the belt. It is possible that your car came with a faulty belt or a lose tensioner. My dealer is pretty good. I usually just call him and tell him I have a problem and he tells me to bring the car down right away. If he can fix it right there, he will. Hopefully yours is just as good. |

Offline | If the squealing is worse with the lights / rear screen heater on, then it is almost certainly the alternator belt. The alternator torque is less at higher speeds, and less when the battery is charged, so that can be why these sounds go away. |
