Offline | Supercharger Rattle When Cold I've noticed that there is a slight rattle when the car is started from cold (if it has been left overnight for example). It's not a tap or a knock, but a rattle sound. Is this all MSCs or is it a problem? My car is an original, unmodified 2003 MCS |

| only the brave! | I hear this rattle in the mornings when cold, is it the SC or something else? I did also have a slight knocking/rattle before but this was a flywheel problem, which they installed a modified flywheel, you can tell by disengaging the transmission(pressing clutch in) if it stops it is something transmission wise. |

| Sparkling Silver R56 | scary stuff i'm reading... bought my MCS june 2004, built and complied 04 Monte Carlo Rallye Model. Anyway from day 1 i heard a tapping sounds when cold... after different opinions and taking it back and forth to work shop the diagnosis was the thrust... or throw bearing i think it was. They had to replace the whole gear box Serioulsy... i love my car... but i read so many problems and issues on these forums that it scares me. Sometimes i really wonder.. are these cars really that good??!! I mean.. for BMW engineering... there's heaps of problems and faults out there. We pay big dollars for these cars... BMW are lucky to have such a strong culture backing the mini brand... if that wasnt the case i'm sure this car would be a dud and have a bad reputation. Anyway... i'm a little ticked as i'm starting to hear the ticking sound in tunnels coming from under the bonnet. Mic AKA: Robot |

Offline | in my case it was a 1 second grinding noise as soon as the car starts on cold in the mornings... noice was blamed on the Starter and thus it was replaced on warranty.. so far no more grinding |

| MINI2 Newbie | I just picked up a used (12k mile) '05 S...and when the guy first started it up it sounded like it had a marble in the exhaust. If it was older I would have thought the cat was gone... He claimed he'd never heard it before (ya, right), but I actually haven't heard it since. Do you think it's the same sound? There was nothing quiet about this rattle...if I hear it again I'll bring it into the dealer... Let us know how you make out! |

| the DASH LIGHT king ? ;) | I owned a 2002 MCS with the same rattle from that area. Luckily i was working for BMW at the time and they showed me it was the Aux Belt tensioner that was causing the rattle. Was changed under warranty ![]() ![]() THE Legend who helps ALL MINI owners |
