Offline | A "new" client to an old issue. Finally happened... While driving to work this morning a good size rock from the road hit my windshield. This happened several times before without a significant damage (just little chips), however, I was not that lucky this time. As you can see in the picture it cracked the windshield at the top corner of the passenger side... The bottom crack (red arrow) is about the size of a dime. In reality, it looks "less intense" than this (flash of the camera makes things more "visible"). Of course, this is not the famous windshield issue as we all know; however, among the cars that I've owned so far, this is the first time I need to replace (or fix) a windshield. Do you think this is fixable? I located couple of companies online (by the way one of them has a picture of a MINI Cooper on their home page; how funny is that?). If I need to replace it, what is the aftermarket option and how much does it cost? Lastly, should I get this repaired immediately? If I can make it to the weekend, things will be much easier. Thanks for the help in advance! Now I am part of the "windshield survivors" group. ![]() |

| AWOL | if you were in the Uk that would probably be too big to fix.... bit sure what the rules in the US are... The problem you'll have if you dont fix it asap will be one of the cracks spreading which will then make it a definate new screen needed... heat makes it worse, I had a similar issue with a previous car and in the sun i watched the crack grow while I was sat in traffic Last edited by MINIAC : Jul 14th, 2005 at 03:01 PM. Online | The star-bursts should be repairable and no windshield replacement should be required. Your insurance company will probably cover the cost of the repair ... call them and see who they recommend. I had a company called Safelite Glass come to my house to fix a similar mishap ![]() |

Offline | After calling several others, I also used the Safelite Glass. Thanks for the recommendation! The price was very close between companies ($50-70). A "mobile" technician came and injected some resin into the cracks -after drilling a little hole. It looks OK for the moment (definitely a lot better than before). As you know, they provide life-time warranty if it spreads from the same spot. If it does and it is not fixable, they apparently deduct the $60 initial repair cost from the total of the replacement windshield. By the way they quoted me $257 for a replacement -in case needed. Cheers! |
