MINI wants an oil change

Just picked up my slightly used 04 MINI and i just drove it to its 10k mark.
The computer tells me I've got 50 miles till its first service, but I live at least 60 from the dealership and there is no way I can make it there 'till Thursday morning and today being Tuesday.
Is this going to mess with my engine or cause a problem with the dealer if it's a bit overdue?

Please help

No, it will be fine if you go slightly over the mileage. But just get the oil service done as soon as humanly possible.

If you are still concerned check your oil level and top up if necessary.

The distance to service is, at best, a guess. The car doesn't actually measure what state the oil is in. Maybe one day cars will be that good, but not yet. All it does is count down the millage, with some bias for cold starts, stop - start driving etc. It assumes that you have the right oil in and is based on the best guess that the engineers can get past the sales people.

Some owners do an extra oil change at half distance.

Anyhow, a few miles over is no big deal. The engine wear rate goes up as the oil degrades but nothing magical happens as the service indicator hits zero.

Just book it in for a service and don't worry.
