| MINI2 Regular | Does anyone have any suggestions for insurance companies with the mini. I've received a lot of responses that they will not cover it because they are considering it foreign. Would just like to know what companies other mini owners are using. |

Offline | Re: Insurance (US)? Foreign? Huh? Are you calling some sort of xenophobic insurance companies? The MINI is completely approved for sale in the US, so it should be just as easy to insure as any other "foreign" car - a Canadian-built Firebird or a Mexican-built PT Cruiser, or a Korean-built Hyundai. Perhaps these insurance companies are behind the times and have not yet updated their computers to recognize MINI as a brand of car - a manufacturer. If you supply a MINI VIN their systems will probably indicate it is a BMW made in Germany, but even so, they should be able to provide you with a quote. BTW, my MINI is insured through Allstate. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | Re: Insurance (US)? That's a first! What car isn't "foreign" these days (BMW, Datsun, Nissan, Toyota, MINI.......) I use SBLI because they have a great discount attached to term life ins. policies. Quote for 12 months on Cooper S is $934.00. Do a search as this subject has a long thread with quotes from around the country. Missing my buddies Dan and Ed but glad I have two angel buddies , And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs |

| Bad Dog, Moderator | First I've heard of this problem... search around for a good price, it seems to vary widely. Offline | I also got wildly varying quotes, so definitely shop around. The best deal I found was PEMCO, $821/yr. Other quotes ranged from $900-$1800. Allstate (my current insurer) was the highest. |

Offline | I am around $330 for six months for an S through Progressive. They impressed me when I asked for insurance on a MINI by immediately asking if it was a Cooper or Cooper S. | MINI2 Regular | I have Insurance through Nationwide. Rates not too bad except that they can't figure out what I have. At first I got a policy saying "MINI COOP" then a week later saying I have a "BMW M COUPE" I'd love to have an M Coupe, but I won't pay insurance on one if I can help it. Another call to my agent and she's trying to get them sorted out. I got yet another policy yesterday, still saying "M Coupe" but with more reasonable rates. Apparently I'm the first MINI to have an account with them. It's all very odd since their website has MINI COOPER and COOPER S as choices.... Oh well. ![]() |

Offline | Mine too is through Nationwide. About 2 hours after I bought the car I got a call from them asking what a Mini was. I said something like, "That's just what it is". She said "we need to broaden it a bit -- is it a camper, a motorcycle, or what" ![]() The rate is very acceptable, although I'm not sure what it is. The total for my Sequoia, 323, Ducati, and Mini is about $1100 / year. |

| heterochromic & loving it | In preparation for the theoretically imminent arrival of my Cooper S, I stopped by AAA to formally sign up for the policy. They told me the $380/6 months would be if I used their payment plan. If I pay the full 6 months at once, the premium drops to $341/6 months ($682/yr)! Makes me happy... -Ricardo |

Offline | thought I better check out the insurance, so I called my agent (State Farm) and got a quote of $330/6mo. That's more than my Corvettes! But they are older and paid for. Still, not bad considering some of the other figures I see posted here! Includes multi-car discount, and homeowners, plus no claims. Also getting into gieser territory. |

Offline | Insurance !%@# ~sugar~ I also live in Phoenix, Its not so much your history, although that does play into it, it is the fact we are in the southwest and less than 50 years old and the insurance companies haven’t figured out cost of repair. So we in the southwest are being rated mostly on the cost of replacement $17,000 to $24,000 (theft or accident causing it to be totaled) I have called several insurance companies (Allstate, AAA, Progressive, Geico, Farmers) including the American Family whom insures me now, and they are all around a $700 per six months Allstate, AAA, Farmers and American Family are all within a 100 of each other every six months. That is with myself 28 my best gal 26 and two vehicles, a paid for Honda civic and the MCS (multi-car discount). So I will be staying with AmFam until I find a better deal. So until we turn 50, or Arizona theft rate drastically declines we are stuck paying out the - well you know. Genxslkr MCS Chili Red w/white roof, Premium and Sport |

Offline | I live in NYC and I haven't had a car on the road since my 77 Midget ran back in 93. I'm a mass transit boy. I'm going to get raped on insurance ain't I.....? Anyone have any ideas on who will be best for me - 33, Single, Rent, no previous accidents/tickets. So far the 2 quotes I had we're like 1500 for 6 months....Is there no way around the "insured in previous 6 months to 2 years" window. Even at my age with a clean record? BTW the car will be garaged out on Long Island... MINE!! on 10/18/02 - IB/W Cooper S, White Bonnet Stripes, Premium - Sport - Cold, Lapis Blue interior, Nav, Rally Lamps, 17" White Spokes. Wouldn't change a thing.... |

Offline | For all of you that have quotes around $1000/year or less, please tell me how many miles a year were you quoted for? Right now, I have a clean record, no points, no accidents, been driving for 17 years (I'm 33, married). AAA quoted me around $2,700 year to insure myself on my MINI and my wife on our 10 year old Lexus LS-400. We currently pay about $1,900 a year for my wife on the Lexus and me on a 10 year old Isuzu Rodea 4WD. If I only drove 3,000 miles a year, my insurance would be remain about the same at $1900. If I drove 12,000 miles, it jumps to $2700-$2800. |
