Im 18, Male, live in Cheadle, Cheshire (SK8 postcode) and have 0 noclaims. Next year I will have to declair 3 penalty points too ![]() I drive a mini one D worht about £16k, haven't declared any mods except darkened glass. I'm insured with privilege and pay about £2.4k per year. Just wondered if I'm over paying, getting a good deal or what?!? harrop ![]() |

| Trainee Bubblegoose | Afternoon Si, not spokeded to you in a while i've disappeared from the 16k MOD owners thread! Points were for speeding - 59 in a 50 on the M6 ![]() I've got to be carefl - if you get 6 points in the first 2 years of driving thats it! retest for Tom! Also, I didnt have any points when I got the quote, i might go through their site and get a re-quote. Will also try tecco's - they were cheaper fro practically every other car i got quoted for! ![]() Last edited by harrop : Jan 6th, 2006 at 11:16 PM. |

| MINI2 Senior | FYI You need to tell your insurance company now about your points. I would think that the smallprint says that you need to tell them straight away about any changes to circumstances such as increased mileage etc. and also includes penalty points. Try the AA, I was suprised this year how much cheaper they were than anyone else. |

Offline | If you've got points then you need to declare them now! Also, you imply that your car has modifications other than just the darkened glass; those must be declared too! Finally, with the factors mentioned already and being so far over your insured mileage, I'm confident that you are driving uninsured!! |

Offline | How do you suggest they prove what mileage you have done? I do agree points need declaring straight away otherwise you may aswell not bother with insurance, and any mods you may have definately need declaring too. Chances are they wont increase your premium because of the points until next year, mods will though Anyway, I'm 18 driving an S - had to change to my mums policy and paying 1800 with 0 years NCB. Before, I was 18 driving a ONE with 1 years NCB paying just under 600 a year ![]() |

Offline | If you imagine you could work out anyones mileage. Say you declare 12,000 miles. Go buy a brand new car. Write it off after 9 months and you have 14,000 miles - the loss assesor will check that. Or declare 12,000 miles in 1st year no loss, declare 3,000 for the next year, declare 2000 for the next year... then you get wrote off and your mileage is 20,000 - again they will work out the figures. But of course, 2nd hand car - not declared mileage to DVLA, and moving insurers - who'd know. |

Offline | just out of interest, do insurance companies check the mileage of a car they insure? surely if they have the reg number they could check it out? if not, everyone would be insured for 5,000 miles when they were doing 20,000 surely? |
