Offline | IMO that is a load of cobblers. So long as your new tyre meets, or exceeds, the load/speed rating of the OEM tyres and complies with other VicRoads specifications (if you go 18s for example) then I can't see how any insurance company would deny a claim. What next, you void your insurance because you put the wrong washer fluid in your car, or use the wrong wiper blades??? ![]() |

Offline | You might lose roadside assistance if someone is in a bad mood when you phone and say "I have a flat" but BMW insurance said I could do whatever I like with wheels and tyres, as long as what I fitted was within spec according to the tyre placard. ![]() |

Offline | All the guy at RACV said was I can do whatever I like as long as the new wheels and tyres are considered roadworthy and not illegal. PS: Not buying my new rims from the guy who told me this!! |

Offline | Hi, As others have said, make sure any replacement tyres meet the load ratings Many tyre dealers will try to sell you tyres that do not comply Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | Nothing much to add from others (re load ratings) except that I bought my Mini with non-runflats standard (Cooper non-Chilli comes with 15" Rocket wheels + 175/65R15 P3000 normal non-runflat tyres). It doesn't have a spare so a Mini tyre-repair kit is fitted as standard. As a result I'm sure that there shouldn't be any problems going from runflats to non-runflats for the other models considering there is no difference mechanically in this regard. |

Offline | Changing tyres is regarded as maintainance, changing wheels is regarded as a modification. And yeah, the guy is correct, if you change your wheels and do not tell your insurer you may not be covered. Most of the time when you call your insurer will say no problem to a change of wheels, but if you change to a bigger non oem wheel you may have to pay extra as you are making the car more desirable to theifs, not just the car but also the wheels may get stolen. However there are a few times when insurers have used it as an excuse not to pay out in major claims though, so don't risk it, just tell them. Alot of the guys on the BMW forums are changing the positively awful run flats to regular tyres, and using the same rims, some dealers are saying you can't put non run flats on run flat rims, but plenty of dealers are saying you can and loads of people are doing it with no problems. I am pretty sure it would be the same for a mini. |
