Insurance for Young Mini Drivers!!! HELP!!!

Hi Guy's,

I'm 19 nearly 20 with 2 years NCB, I have a Mini One on a 52 reg with the Aerodynamic bodykit. Last Year i paid £1600 on insurance, this year with my NCB its down to £1088. I love my mini to bits but want to exchange it in for a Cooper S. The only problem with this is that Ive been told that i need to be over 21 to insure it. I got a quote for £2300 for a Cooper S. Can anyone help with some insurance companies that would insure and are cheap?

Thanks

Try admiral - although make sure you do a search on about them on here first, there is an issue with a standard parts clause but it can be sorted.

Incase you decide to stay with the ONE - I would seriously suggest shopping around when your renewals due. I was paying £597 (10 month rapid bonus policy) for my ONE with 1 year NCB when I was 18, so yours seems to be fairly steep!

Ive just re-insured my ONE with MINI.

One thing i found is you have to be careful with 'mods'.

My car was with Churchill (with MINI as of lunchtime ) and when I tried to get a quote for my new ONE they wouldnt touch it coz its got a rear spoiler! No mods for under 25's!(needless to say they didnt have a clue about the wheels on my current ONE for a whole year, which was a bit risky )

MINI were fine with the wheels on my current ONE and perfectly ok about quoting me for the new ONE, with it mods. They said as long as they know about them its fine. (I dont have/wont be having engine mods though)

Moral of the story - give MINI a go, and stick Churchill, at least its their own brand, plus you get your other little 'benifits' too.

Norwich Union. It was £597 before mods (apart from S Spokes), when I declared my Cooper S Bumpers/skirts/spoiler, exhaust and induction kit - it when up by £90 for 9 months.

supa-dupa-cooper, elephant is part of the admiral group (Admiral, Elephant, Bell) - as I said earlier these will almost always be the cheapest people to insure an MCS with as a young driver but be careful of the standard parts clause.

Ive Just got a quote from Adrian Flux for a Mini one with my Bodykit and it came out at £940. I also got a quote for a Cooper S and that came out at £1600.00 which i think is great. I would recommend them for anyone with a modified Mini.

Generally you can only get the one years NCB with the company that issued the original accelerator policy. If you go to another company they will say that you only have 10 months and not a full year. Some other insurers that issue bonus accelerator policies will accept a 10 month NCB from another company. As you're already restricted by the number of insurers that will insure you then it makes more sense to get a full years NCB.

I think the quote for the ONE is fairly steep, but you will struggle to beat the MCS quote

One thing to note (as I thought about this before taking out the policy) is that should your renewal date come and your quote is no longer competitive (i.e. you wish to change insurer), you can extend your policy for an extra 2 months at the rate you were given at the start of the policy.

That was NU, it may of course vary between companies
