I'm switching to them in a couple of weeks. Such a difference in the premiums and excess compared to MINI Cover that I had to call them twice to check that they'd added all the mods! One of the few that do a 'like for like' on the modifications too. Incidentally, UK Insurance Ltd seem to underwrite a heck of a lot of insurance policies these days. Was it always that way with MINI Cover? Wondered if they had anything to do with the big increase in premiums and excess for such few mods. ![]()

I've just done the general ring round to insure my 02 Cooper with 17" S alloys, full aero kit and viper stripes. most of the big companies were rubbish. i could not beliebe it when Mini Cover ask, "so what is an aero kit and how much is it worth?" What is the point in advertising as Mini specialists and not know about Minis. I have ended up with Directline. They were great. I get extra discount as my girlfriend is also insured by them, and they gave me the 10% online discount as I told them I could not tell me about the mods online. I have been with AF before when I have a very modified classic Mini.

Just had a quick search of the forum and can't find the thread now, but I know I crossed them off my list of 'ring rounds' for some reason or another (and I'm not under 25!). If I find it I'll let you know, but it's always worth asking anyway when you get a quote. IIRC the reason given by insurance companies higher premiums for modified cars, even though the mods are replaced with stock parts, is because they are more likely to fall prey to thieves and vandals. Basically any excuse to put the premium up! ![]()

yeh as yidaho says, the insurance companies charge you more for having the 'mods' as the car is effectively at higher risk of being stolen - but it doesnt mean to say they will replace these parts if they get nicked! Another way for them to dwindle some cash I guess. Dave

You should also try; http://www.greenlightinsurance.com/ They quoted me £100 cheaper than AF. They will cover almost all mods for no extra charge, track day insurance for £50 a day. Like for like for all mods!! Major engine mods for about £65 extra on a years premium. No contest really.

I can highly recommend them - am with them myself and when I came to ask about modding the car I was allowed to put strut brace on and lower it without any increase to the premium. Because they are performance car specialists they allow you to do stuff that regular insurers wouldn't. I seem to remember they aren't to fussed about your annual mileage either. IMO they are ace ![]()
