JCW Insurance

I've had a quote from Direct Line for a 2004 JCW S, and it's just over £1k, which is fine. But unfortunately Direct Line won't insure a modified car if you're under 25 (I'm 23), and I'd need my JCW seats, Aero Kit, coilovers, rear anti roll bar and other things added onto it.

I've just got a quote for the full car (inc. all mods) from Adrian Flux, and it's over £1800

I tried Greenlight, and they wouldn't even insure me.

Does anyone have any suggestions for somewhere I can call that's going to get a lot nearer to my £1k Direct Line quote and not charge me stupid money for the (non-performance!) mods?

Greenlight were cheapest for me on the Works, the 2nd closest was Egg.

Not sure what their stance is on mods though?

Greenlight wouldn't insure me - they'd only insure me up to £15k, when my car would be worth about £20k.

UKC4: How old are you and how did you manage that?? I used to be with Direct Line, but when I added my mods they said they couldnt insure me as I'm under 25.

As the Aero kit and JCW seats are now factory-fit "official" options, would they technically be classed as modifications or could I get away with not declaring them?

When I was first shopping around for my Cooper, MINI were WAY out. And I don't think they like mods either?

Well, i know my mods arent much, (churchill would even touch it) but MINI are fine with my wheels, spolier, decals, and spots (if i put them on) no extra charge.

They told me they were fine with mods, as long as you tell them you got them.

MINI were way out for me last year, but this year it was fine

MINI just quoted me £1k for an S or £1.4k for a works. Not that bad, as long as I can tell them about my mods (coilovers, seats, aero, etc.) and not be charged for them, but they'll cover them?

If I don't declare things like the aero kit/seats, does that just mean I won't get paid out for them? Or does it mean my insurance will be void?

If you dont declare them, surely you could face hitting alsorts of problems if anything were to happen, remember insurance companies will probably try anything to get out of paying out

I never did declare the wheels, decals, spots etc on my other ONE, if i had of done my car would not have been covered (was with Churchill), was a bit risky doing that really looking back, am much happier now EVERYTHING on the newbie is covered and dealt with

I just got a quote of £1600 from ecar with all mods declared.

Need to get it down to about £1350 then I'll be happy.
