this could work.. limited use except for work purposes..
whats the point of driving Around on the streets at that time anyways.. sure if your coming home from work and so on, but no need for racing around like some do.. saves us money too.. I like that idea..
EMPTY SPACE NEEDS FILLING....
but it has to be something that wont get me banned
Lost too many friends in daft car accidents that could have been avoided.... This is definitely a good thing.
I'd actually like a re-design of the whole 'learning to drive' system. Its entirely possible to pass your test and be granted the freedom of the road with just a couple of hours experience under your belt - how shocking is that!
Driving hours for learners should be logged, just like flight hours are logged for pilots. You should not be allowed to take your test until you have logged 'X' number of hours practice. These needn't be with an instructor...
Then once you have your test, you should be limited to one or two passengers maximum for one year. That will cut out 5 lads piling into a Nova and looning it around like an F1 car.
I know it sounds harsh, but i think to cut the mortality rates for under 21s on our roads, it should be done.
i agree with the last point about limiting the number of passengers, i can remember from my early days its too easy to get egged on by a load of mates in the back
That shounds like a brilliant idea; it's entirely voluntary for younger drivers, so they don't have to take it up if they don't like the idea. If it helps stops young lives being wasted on the roads as well it's great news.
Nobody loses from this option
Certainly, if I had a car that cost a huge amount to insure, I'd like to have the option.
Tigger.
Personally, I'd like to see compulsory re-tests (say, every 10 years) for everyone, of any age, but that's the subject for another thread
Excellent idea. To be honest, I'd consider it myself if I could save 40%, and I'm 27!
(please don't think I'm making light of the road safety issue, I'm not! )
Not sure why the insurance company needs to know the time and place every journey takes place though Why should they need to know where you are?
I guess it would be helpful for the insurance company to have this sort of information to help against the possible denial by the client that the car was ever used at that time. Come to think of it, if I was being charged £25, I'd like to know what event it related to!
Tigger.
PS: I would suggest that this is just the beginning; with satellite tracking we can ultimately expect the time when we are charged by the mile for insurance cover, with different rates for different roads and different times and much stricter control over times and places of use and cover.
its a good idea, but not all young drivers drive like pillocks you know.
\
so would i actually, there shouldnt be a test. even the test is too easy, you have 3 minors allowed; just one minor in real life could result in a crash . it should be driving with an instructor for x amount of time while he judges your driving skills over that period of time.
its so easy to pass, you basically have to just suss when to look at the mirrors and signal.
the real learning period i rekon though is when you drive on your own.
