Convertible Insurance....

...has been a nightmare for me!!

I took the plunge and bought a MINI One Convertible last weekend. I thought that the insurance should not be a problem as the car is insurance Group 6, compared to my current Cooper's Group 8.

I was soo wrong

About 80% of insurance companies, including the one I had been with for the past few years, would not even cover me! Turns out that because its a convertible I have to be 21, or in some cases 25! On most convertibles this would be understandable, but on a car which is only group 6?!?

After a week of me and an independant broker getting as many quotes as possible I had prices that went as high as £7k. In the end I found Bell to be by far the best and I'm now sorted

Although just over £1700 lighter (I'm 19, 0 NCB)

Hope this is of some use to someone, it seems young drivers and convertibles don't mix well!

Rant over

That's ridiculous! Not many times I'm glad to be 'old' but when it comes to the insurance racket! Seems ridiculous and unfair - can't thathom why it should be more than a Coop!?
