Offline | Insurance for wheel change Just rang my insurer to see how much my premium would go up if I change to 18" wheels from 17". They want to add roughly 25% to my premium! (£130 or so extra a year) Anyone else found this? Tempted to move my insurance! (although I'll probably find that elsewhere too I guess...) ![]() |

Offline | Seeing as most insurance companys are stealing a living thats normal I had similar problems when I put minilites on a classic. Shop around though some companys wont worry about it. |

Offline | Just rang them back again, and they also want to put the accidental damage excess up! He even said that if these wheels had been on from new then they would count as an optional extra not a modification, and my premium would be the same as it is now. Work that one out. This is Direct Line by the way. Just read through your thread on problems with Direct Line and the sound kit! Must say they have been good in the past when I have claimed. They obviously just don't like modifications! This is the price you pay for being honest... ![]() |

| 5 sleeps!! | I left Direct Line after 1 year of owning my MCS. I was paying more for it than my Clio 172, just because I was honest about what I had all of which were on the car from when I picked it up from the dealer (so they were factory or dealer fitted). The side skirts were the killer and pushed my insurance up so much and the excess!! I changed to Greenlight at renewal time and they were great!! Saved me about £350 and are fine about mods. Direct Line were great on my insurance for my 172 and insured me when most other companies wouldn't touch me (due to age), I was with them for 7 years and they were brilliant when I had my accident, but they are just not mod or non standard friendly. Signature Wanted!! Eagle Eye Vick |
