| Wants an Audi | R56 / 2nd Gen Insurance Problems Just called to get a quote for our Mini Cooper S thats arriving in December. I rang Adrian Flux, went through all the details (very polite and friendly) and then got a quote that was several hundred pounds over my best quote so far. They informed me that because the cars value is over £22,000, there "Mini specialist" insurers refuse to insure it. So there’s a heads up, if your new is over 22k Adrian Flux “can’t be as competitive” Now going with Directline @ £760.20 (22, Female, 3 points, 3 years NCD) & Me (change due to the cars now in the MRS name) |

Offline | I have ordered my first every mini and it is due in December. When getting an insurance quote they always ask if I have had any extras fitted. Is it correct that I should tell them everything that I have had added, like trim colour, multifunctional steering wheel etc. I know that they all add value to the car and I don’t want to be under insured. Any advice would be welcome. ![]() |

Offline | You should tell them the lot, the best insurers will cover you for the extras like for like, some (such as Elelephant, Admiral) will cover the extras (as in you're insured with them on your car), but may not have a like-for-like replacement policy. |

Offline | I was told to give a full invoice valuation of car and the insurer took ANY original equipment in that price as being standard factory fit and quoted accordingly. I wouldn't say the MFSW is an added.... its in the original specification as per invoice. I believe the extras that need specifying are high value- easily stolen items like upgraded wheels or after market modifications like aero kit. I'm no expert but the insurers have been really good with me (17 0 NC etc.) and thats what I was told to watch for. The insurers will obviously be more interested in performance enhancements more than anything else. |

Offline | Confused is the biggest joke for young drivers ...waste of time....my quotes in range £8,300 to £18,903.27 on a R56 Cooper. Daft but true. They then bombarded me with calls offering a deal at £3000+..... Follow Rec's advice CALL EM direct.....an experience in itself. I have got fixed up via Lifesure.on the phone..real people who know what they are doing. Spent over an hour on one call to be told the car didn't exist. |

Offline | How much does it cost? The cost for different car modifications varies massively between insurance companies. Before purchasing a modification we recommend you check with your insurance company how much it will cost. It is also worth noting that in most cases in the event of a claim the modified part will only be replaced by the standard part. Why does it cost extra? There are two main reasons why mods cost extra on insurance policies. Modifications tend to fall into two categories, each category is explained below and why it increases the premium.

| MINI2 Regular | I managed to insure mine with Churchill after they rang the underwriters. They are quite a bit cheaper than mini insurance. Mini gave me 7 days free insurance but the excess is £500, so I have quickly changed it to Churchill. Even the quote Mini gave me was with £400 excess and i am 38 with 21 years NCD! |
