Cheap insurers & Shortfall

Well, In the end I took mini shortfall.

I think I'd possibly be ok using one of the cheap insurers?

please discuss?

Most (not found one that doesn't) insurers will replace your new mini in the first year if it is written off - so you are paying for a years cover that most likely you do not need. !

That said a shortfall is a comfort - maybe haggle on the price?

I guess if the cheap insurers don't pay for the "extras", eg Chili pack, aero kit, then will they only pay out £15k (on a Cooper S), rather than the insured value (eg £20K) then shortfall would be a good thing. Depends what the difference in insurance costs are, versus cost of shortfall.

I guess we need to find someone who has written car off and been in same situation.

Car was used and older than 12 months!

And seeing as we were buying from a dealer the few quid shortfall is i thought it was worth it as any insurance company would value it a K less than we paid i'm sure!

Just really testing the water as you say anyone who's claimed using a cheap insurer and shortfall?

As i understand it if the car gets written off in the next 4 years i'd get paid out upto invoice value above the insurance settlement??????

Cheaper ones like Elephant and Admiral (UK companies) don't-they just offer the market value. Could you tell us which cheaper companies do?
