'07 Cooper S Insurance

i have had my 07 MCS for 3 days 4 days now and my insurance is up for renewal at the end of this month. i went from a Megane 1.6 to this. im 21 years old and some places are not even bothering to offer me a quote!

Can anybody recommend an insurance company to me that is the most reasonable for younger people with MCS'?

thanks

First thing first....

You bought a car without first calling your insurance companies to find out "the hit"? Ouch, there's a lesson to everyone.

Next, Adrian Flux seem to come up often. And it it's completely standard (and I mean NO extras, such as Chilli Pack, aircon etc, as they don't cover then like for like) then Elephant/Admiral often come in cheap.

There's a few similar threads here in the insurance forum that could be helpful, take a browse/search and see what companies come up often, then get on that phone!

Let us know how you get on too.

I actually found BMW (not MINI) insurance very good, and I'm currently with Liverpool Victoria, who also seem very good.

if i did look at it, i might not have got the car!!! like i said, had it a few days and love it!

i have had the best quote from admiral so far. it is a basic MCS and my girlfriend has a speeding ticket (in her diesel clio, not my mini!) and that is £1200ish!

Be aware of Admiral's policy though. They will charge extra for and "cover" extras such as Chili Pack, Aircon, 17" alloys etc, but under their T&Cs do not replace these "extras" (even factory fitted etc) like for like.

I was with Admiral with an old car, but when I got my MINI I left due to this policy, and from very recent feedback on here it's still the same.

LV have just sent my mum a quote for a car she sold nearly 3 months ago, and the best of it is, shes never had a policy with them?!

And dont believe everything they tell you on the phone! Diamond (admiral) told me they do replace extras like for like, but the small print says different!

I did a bit of research last night, on MINI insurance. Im currently 20 with 2 years NCB, they wont quote me online for any S. I changed my date of birth to make me 21, and they will then quote on an S (no matter whether i put 2 or 3 ncb). Interestingly this isnt the case with Zurich (who im with now) It says to call them for a quote

You will find some companies wont quote but most should. It will just be expensive!

The easiest way i found to sort out my insurance after the problems i had (if you read the thread i started you will understand) was to go to a broker. They will search loads of companies for you and get the best price/cover.

But i would certainly have done some research before getting the car?!

If £1200ish from Admiral is your lowest, I think that is probably about as cheap as you're going to get. If your main concern is the price (rather than the quality of the cover) I have found Elephant/Admiral to be the cheapest. However, as others have said, they are not good for insuring extras.

Some tips I have found for keeping the cost down are:
1) Keep your annual mileage as low as possible
2) Add someone with a full clean licence (and a respected profession) as a named driver. I added my Dad (a solicitor) and it reduced my premium by over £100.
3) Park in a garage if possible.

Good luck!!

Iam with Budget insurance with 8y NCB & 38 with the JCW aero kit for £367 . I called 50 companies to get a decent quote . You can use moneysavingextra.com to do the search for you .

Try Direct Line. I was 21 when I took my insurance out with them and it was less than £1000. Now 22 and its £650 with 2 years NCB, good postcode. I have my house insurance with them though so I get an extra discount.
Let us know how you get on.
