protected no claims - switching insurer

I've protected my no claims with my current insurer. Unfortunately, some t**t stole the front bumper from my car so I had to claim on my insurance, which is ok because I protected my no claims. However, I've searched for some more quotes and have found a great deal somewhere else, and I want to swap to them when my current policy is up for renewal. How does the protected no claims work? Obviously I will have to tell new insurer that I had a claim, so will they still count my no claims?

Basically yes they will still count your no claims but you will have a claim recorded against you. I doubt your claim will effect your insurance because it was a malicious damage claim rather than an own fault accident

yes, its an odd situation but they move with you when you change insurers...

A ouple of years ago, I wrote off my Mini. I claimed and they paid out £18500. My policy was protected, so I kept my 9 years No Claims bonus. (75%)

On re-insuring my car the following year, my insurance renwall went up £200. I was incesnced, as I thought the NCB would protect me. It did, but not how I understood it.

Because of my claim, my risk was judged much higher, so my renewall quote went up. I still got a 75% discount on the overall figure, but the inital figure was much higher, so I had to pay more....

However, I told them to stuff it and got a much cheaper quote elsewhere, even with my accident record.

Use Cheap UK Car insurance and home insurance quotes comparison from Confused.com. to get the easiest quotes in the UK - its not an insurance broker, you simply fill in your details on their web site, their computer takes tose details and puts it into a load of insurers systems and you get the best quote back. Very very good system.
