I find it hilarious how little you pay for insurance in the UK compared to Ireland. I am 20, 3Yrs NCB. I pay a little over 1400 fully comp. Which is riciulously cheap. They crack down hard on insurance over here in ireland, especially with younger drivers. I paid 4600 for my first policy when i was 17. Third party only on a 1989 mini (which cost me 500quid) had to bite the bullet and do it. Saved for the insurance, not the car. ![]() All prices listed above are in euros!

I think the best idea is to mod your ONE, even just a bluefin will get it into the cooper range no point paying that much more to get a cooper and insure it for more when you can just make you ONE faster if thats what you want. £400 for a superchip otherwise you loose money in depretiation so on. Hope this helps Mark

Im 20, but was 19 when I got my S - price was £1500 through Adrian Flux (they were the only company who would cover me!) with 0 yrs no claims and 0 crash history. Next year its due to drop 30% when I get my 1st yr no claims A.Flux told me over the phone last night ![]() *oh forgot to mention with all my mods covered as well - only made £100 difference* Just bought a Mini Cooper S !!

I say there is nothing wrong with a One anyway! I once got caught going 96 mph in my One! Whoops! I was 21 when I got my One and kept it till I was 24. I was waiting for the magic age of 25 (when price of Insurance comes right down) to get one as they are considered a performance car and the insurance price reflects that! I say stick with the One if your insurance on that is £2k! It will be closer to £5k for a Cooper S. As your a young person you also have the young person fee that is over £500 to claim anyway! So anything minor happens to your car it is cheaper just to fix without claiming anyway. With MINIs you have to get it covered properly anyway or your options are not listed aswell. Elephant and Admiral and such are known not to cover options.

Im 24 and have an R56 S. been driving since I was 17. Got 3 points and park the car on a main street judt out side Edinburgh. 1 year no claims. £650 with Admiral. Before that I had my cooper with a JCW conversion and it was £450 with direct line and it was the first car I insured in my own name, I had however been a named driver on my mums direct line policy as she insured the car for me until then.

I was 20 when I got my MCS, paid £1600 fully comp through portfolio insurance, but they initially said no. Declared mods too, which didnt alter price. Premiums generally are higher here in Northern Ireland than england. Now 23 and i'm paying under £1000. Also covers me fully comp in own name on a vauxhall astra, a saab estate, a nissan xtrail, and a van (and the GP part time). Needless to say I'm not insured to drive the porsches til i turn 25, but will be askin when I turn 24. Tho I do have 3rd part cover for any car as far as im aware. ![]()
