Tell in insurance comp??

Hi Guys, this is my first post on here, but i've owned my MCS for about 2 years now.
I've been in touch with Roland about having the GTT 210 upgrade, but just wondred if anyone has had prob's with insurance or whether it's worth even telling them!
Did it put your premium up much? I'm 31! (honest)

Anyone know of any good companys to go to, as i suspect i should really let them know!!

Yes tell them, if you need to claim and they inspect the car they will not pay out !...and with the level of checks I'm going through with my insurance company (checking with DVLA for drivers licence history, independent check of vehicle etc) before they'll pay out they would find something as major as that.

And worth knowing what it will cost to insure before getting the work done.

You should always inform your insurer when you make any changes to the specification of your vehicle - whether you consider them to be a significant upgrade or not. Failure to do so may invalidate your cover. In the event of an accident with invalidated insurance this could leave you personally liable to cover the damages of another vehicle, without compensation for the repair/replacement of your own vehicle, and personally responsible for injury compensation for others in the accident. In addition, under UK law, you could also be criminally prosecuted for knowingly driving without valid cover.

Unfortunately, I've no idea how this will affect your current premium - the best thing to do is to discuss it with your insurance company. They don't put up your rates for merely asking questions! I should know, I'm on the phone to them every 5 minutes trying to find out what they will and will not allow me to change before my 25th birthday.

No idea on what alternative companies there are to the BMW/MINI-affiliated UK Insurance Ltd. I haven't really looked about yet, as I pay my premiums in advance and still have 10 months of cover left.

All the best,
Andrew.

JCW added 10% to my premium. (£60 at the time)

However, many companies wont touch aftermarket tuning, so you may have to be prepared to change insurance companies to a specialist....

Yes definately tell them! it may be worth waiting until nearer your renewal time as the company you are with now could possibly charge a lot more for insurance than a specialist might.

Yep, and you don't want to be paying out of your own pocket if someone dies or ends up in traction for the rest of their days.

I'm 30 with 5 years NCD and my mods cost me £550 a year to insure. Its JCW + GTT220 + more. I think thats quite reasonable as its on a like-for-like basis for the mods. Call Adrian Flux.

I just think if you cant afford the insurance you can't afford the car/modifications. Simple as that, and should always be factored in.

I checked what my insurance cost before I got my GTT220+ kit although my insurance was due for renewal anyway. My premium went from £250 (Admiral) to £320 (Adrian Flux) - I thought that was reasonable.

Not sure of the phone number but you will find them in the MINI2 directory, or click here - they have a specialist MINI scheme - and be sure to mention MINI2 for maximum discount

I'm just about to renew with them for a second year, with 'all modifications covered on a like for like basis'

I am just about to change my insurance to Adrian Flux. Directline doubled my premium when i told them about the GTT220, not sure they really understand it, but Adrian flux wer 400 lower. Are they as good as everyone says, don't want to end up with problems.
