mcs R53 young driver insurance

Hi Guys,

could really do with some help here - looking to buy a 2004 MCS by the end of the year but the insurance is pricing me out! - not had a quote under £2k pa and that's even being a named driver on the mum's policy!

i am -

20
no ncb
driving for 3 years
garage
good post code
no points
no accidents

Any advice on getting a quote a little closer to £1k would be great.

please help me get a mcs!!!

Cheers

Max

Get older.

First (obvious) issue is the lack of no claims bonus, it's too late for you now, but I'd always advise young drivers to get their own insurance, on a cheap car, so they can start building up that no claims.

Other than that, really your age will be a major factor, have you tried the insurance companies in our sponsor directory? MINI and A-Plan? http://www.mini2.com/sponsors/

There's a few threads in here on the subject, so searching through the insurance forum only for young might help you find some first hand experience to go on.

My first insurance cost more than the car was worth, at least it's not THAT bad.

Try ecarinsurance (google it)

Same as you, last year I was 20, but only driving for 1 year, no NCB, no accidents, no claims, they quoted me 950 fully comp with £200 excess. for a 2004 Mini cooper.

Scotland

i used to work in he car insurance business for several years and i can only really offer a couple of bits of advice

1 buy a cooper not a mcs much easier and cheaper to deal with
2 if you must have a mcs try bell direct normally very good with young drivers
3 accept a high voulantary excess this will bring down the price take 500 voulantary if possible
4 put older relatives e.g mum dad etc on the policy as 2nd drivers (only if they have good records tho) an insurance company looks at the car and says 12000 miles a year one young driver or 12000 miles a year some of it with young driver some with older person it can help alot

hope it works out

Ouch!! I dont usually look in here but i thought id help ya
I am in a similar position but i am :
19
1 yr ncb
driving for 2 years roughly
not garaged just driveway
Reasonable post code ( in south east)
no points
no accidents

I have a MCS and i am paying £1500 as named driver with my dad as second driver. and i would have got a further 10% off if i had signed up to a mini owners club. This is with adrian flux.
Also if you plan on modifying it, adrian flux arent like the other insurance companies who go into a hissy fit at the sight of something not oem. Imo they are one of the few companies who cater for proper car enthusiasts.

Most companies are owned by one company, so iirc elephant, norwich union etc are the same company but different name so prices will be in the same ball park.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Im 19 and im about to try and sell my Mini One which i have had for 2 years now, im about to buy a 2005 MCS in black with the 5 spoke 17" bullet wheels on,

I am currently with tesco for car insurance and they wont insure me on a MCS untill im 21, i have had a quote of £2450 fully comp on my own policy with my dad as a named driver, I have 1yr ncb and i live in a good area, the car will be kept on the drive over night etc. My only downfall is that i have had an accident so i will get premium put ontop for that.

cant wait to go from 135bhp to 170bhp!!!! plus that supercharger noice followed by the pop pop pop!!!

Alex
