Help!! MCS Young driver e.t.c.

Hi guys,

Having the usual dilemma:

Young driver, MCS, stupid prices!

Best quote I've had so far is £2000 fully comp with my parents as 2nd drivers, that was with Bell.

I thought Adrian Flux was going to wipe the floor with that, but they came up at £2500, ive heard of someone in exactly the same position as me on this forum who got it for £1500, thats why I'm so

I live in a very good area, 19, driving for 2 years, no claims or convictions e.t.c.

Any advice and help would be appreciated, thanks

I'm a year older than you, same NCB and a good postcode - paying £850 a year with Admrial (AF quoted me £830 but wouldn't insure my gf as named driver).

I actually paid £450 when I was 19 with 1 year NCB, but that was because Admiral cocked up big style

What mileage are you putting down? Make sure you don't over-estimate it, if you drive less than 5k a year most companies offer a low mileage discount

When I was 23 I bought a normal Cooper for 16k new. I had 6 years driving with an accident 5 years previously (didn't have to declare as i was asked about 3 years) no points etc and I could not do better than £1095 so personally I would not expect you to get less than 2k TBH. Oh and I live in an area classed as one of the lowest insurance risks with the car in locked garage (i live in the sticks with a private lan and then gated drive!

I'm afriad at 19 no matter where or what you have done an S insurance is going to be extortionate...just like a clio 187, focus st or astra vxr will be

Good luck but i think you'll find other than by scamming the insurers you'll easy pay over 1500 and probably not under 2k

Try A-plan insurance...

...and watch with Bell / Admiral / elephant (same company), if you have a write off 1 day into the policy they keep the rest of the years premium and won't transfer to a new vehicle !

And try with your mother/father named as a driver, can sometimes reduce the premium.

Im not scamming the insurers, and Im way under 2k. I had quite a few quotes of under 1k, and didn't have any over 2k.

Dont forget that it depends on your job as well as your home postcode. Want proof? Try putting your occupation down as nurse.

Good girls are just bad girls who haven't been caught yet.

I know 2 nurses, and I wouldn't let either of them out in my car

1 crash a year is good going for one of them

Dont put your occupation down as barman or chef. I could never get insurance for a decent price when I was either of those.

Jeezz Crofty, When I was 24 with 0 NCB I managed to insure a Polo GTi fully comp for £1097. When I switched to a Cooper at 25 the insurance was only £500. Both with Direct Line. I only left Direct line when I bought the JCW because they quoted me £1200 with no mods!

The thing with young driver insurance is you really do have to shop around, the quotes vary dramatically.

Cheers for your replies guys: Latest news is 99% of quotes are 2k plus . . it's a joke, because my job isn't high risk, 5kmiles a year, I live in a very good area and have had no claims, convictions e.t.c

I would like to point out though, I've got no no claims discount, Ive been driving as a named driver for two years. I think I may have to start with a cooper for now, build up some no claims e.t.c unless anyone can reccomend a smashing company to go for? best quote I've got on a cooper though is £1400 with Bell.

Michael

I had just turned 19 when I got my mini cooper s and I had to put my dad as the main driver and me as the named driver, I have annual milage at 25000 and my quote was £1500 but I think they made a bit of a mistake because I am 20 now and my renewal was £1800 last year. I am with Norwich Union Direct. This year I am hoping to go on my own insurance using NCB off my motorbike and I have done a quote at £1300.

Regards

James
