Insurance for a Young Driver

Hello,
After being the proud owner of a Mini One for a year I want something with a bit more grunt, so Im looking at a Cooper S but....... the insurance is killing me! Does anyone know of any companies that will offer a remotely reasonable deal for a 18 year old driver with a years no claims bonus? Or am I just p***ing in the wind?

Cheers Ben

Im being quoted at around £4500 fully comp with the usual companies, if they touch me that is! Just done a quote with Endsleigh and it was £4300, one of the cheapest I seen.

just becareful that the insurance company know its a cooper s.

when i first got my cooper s at 18 more than half the insurance quotes i got kept quoteing me for a cooper. and when i went through the details to confirm it all they wouldnt insure me when they realised it was the mcs. had this happen so many time when shopping around for insurance.

Those prices are ridiculous, i'd never pay that for any car, let alone a MINI!

I paid 1200 for my first year of driving on a MINI ONE, i'd never ever pay more than that on any car in the future.

At 18 though, you've clearly only been driving a year, would it not be far more sensible to stick with a ONE, or if you really want 'that bit extra' a Cooper?

Pointless buying a cooper for most of us ONE owners, as many of us have remaps like bluefin which give more power than a cooper.

My insurance is £1600 for my 53 reg Cooper S for 10 months. Thats with Elephant. I know their a bit crap and don't cover optional extras but what other choice do I have when the nearest competitors are asking over 3 grand? I'm 21 (only just and wasn't when took out policy) have no NCB and one crash (over a year ago) under my belt. Mind you, when I chose to pay monthly they put the premium up to £2170 for 10 months. Makes me sick!

hi it was my own policy fully comprehensive with my mum on it, admiral do 10 month policies so i have 2 years ncb with them. It was also with the highest excess you can pay which doesnt matter really as itd be cheaper to pay for smaller repairs than make a claim in the long run...

p.s i have 3 points on my license
