Lost Insurance Companies, Please Give Me Some Sense

Hi people try and help me understand this!!

liverpool victoria - quotes me £700, on a mini cooper s, my own name, no other drivers, held lisence for 2 years, im 21, no no claims bonus, no accidents or convictions, based on a full time uni student, car value 10000, 9000 miles a year

then i tried to do the quote with my dad as the main driver and me 2nd driver, 43 years old, lisence over 10 years, 5 years protected no claims, self employeed, and they wont insure me because of my age :s im really confuzed here!!!

One of the joys of car insurance

Though you would think it would be the other way around

By quoting you on your own, there is more risk as you are a 21 year old main driver...yet there is potentially less of a risk with you as a 21 year old 2nd driver as you potentially wouldnt be driving the car all the time

But dont forget if you do the insurance with you as a 2nd driver, but you are actually going to be the main driver (as in driving the car most) then that is classed as 'fronting' i.e dont do it!

Also, £700 is a fantastic quote for that car at your age as the main driver, especially considering your lack of NCB.

My insurance this year is £625 on a 2002 MINI Cooper, age 24, 15,000 miles per annum, license for 7 years and 2 years NCB.

the excess is 250 sorry about that, i knw its "wrong" but ive been doing it 2 years, and i dont drive the car "all" the time

but i find that totally weird, my dads just advised me to pay the bit extra so i have this protected no claims on it, as it will save me in the long run just in case anything was to happen,

gotta say thou i was shocked at the 700 quote! on a group 15 car, i was getting quotes of over 1000 last year on my 1.6 group 6 leon

Dont forget insurance companies review their policys and rules and what is the case now might not be in say 6 months time, same as what was the case last year might not be the case now

Try doing it the other way round...

Ask them to add your Dad as a named driver on the £700 policy in your name. The premium should come down.

May or may not have an effect.

I tried to add one/both of my parents to my policy (on my first MINI @18 and on my insurance for this year @ 20) and it made it go up No claims with either of them and been driving years
