Cooper insurance at 18?

Hey... so i am in a bit of a pickle... my dad bought me a mini cooper whilst at an auction since it was going for such a good price, however now i am trying to get insurance on the car and finding it hard. just wondering if anybody has any idea of who to try.

Im an 18 year old male
Cooper 54 Plate with Chili pack
have tried: Bell, admiral, performance direct, etc and they all ask for about £6,000.

any ideas?

£6k?!

Is it an S?
Try Adrian Flux and Tesco/Direct line.

Why would anyone buy a car without checking insurance on it first, whether it was going for a good price or not?!

Insurance on my old 02 plate ONE was £1200 when I was 18, and im female, its possible to find insurance, but its gonna be expensive at your age, especially on a Cooper

Good luck!

I think you'll struggle to get insured by yourself for anything less than a small fortune.

You may have to consider going onto your Dad's insurance policy to get a reasonable price.

Unless you're going to be the main driver in which case that would be wrong

Try adding your dad to your own policy

Having some NCB under your belt helps as does turning 21 (a bit )

Unfortunatly the nature of the MINI means insurance is always going to be higher than say a 1.6 Corsa (crap comparison I know but hey..)

I'd try confused.com and moneysupermarket.com to see where you should go as a guidance. Make sure your mum or dad is a named driver as well. My new MCS is going to cost about £1000 with 2 NCB and just over 2 years driving experience.

hi there, got insured on an 04 plate cooper with aero kit at the age of 17years and 2 weeks, with one day driving experience - £2900. now 18years of age, 2006 S, paying £2950, with that being in my own name with the car parked in a public car park at university.

you must be able to find cheaper insurance, im using cheap online car insurance and home insurance quotes - elephant.co.uk

I initially used DIAMOND ladies insurance, under my mum (for the cooper) and have now moved to elephant, hope it helps dude!

The weird thing is that even with the sites you gave me Drumzz its still coming up with 5K or cannot give you a quote? i live in a good area aswell and the car will be kept in a garage and i am willing to pay the maximum excess on it. out of interest was yours fully comp or third party fire and theft?
