I would try..

I would still give http://www.belldirect.co.uk a try.

They are part of the Adminral group, and a sister company to Elephant - though they seem to offer a lot better benefits than Elephant.

They are a very good price though...

Bell Direct gave me a competitive quote when I got my cooper at £1308... 18, no accidents but 0 no claims. That was for 10 months. Then, renewal came through, now 19 with 1 years no claims... £1400! Needless to say, I'm now with Eagle Star, at £907. And they didn't charge any extra for roof graphics and window tints.

Admiral were one of those "Chili" what's that ? Is that a modification?
Followed by me giving an explanation for what it was, only for them to come back to me with question after question as to what was and wasn't included (I switched off on that one)

Elephant came in a bit high price wise (otherwise good)

To tell the truth I’m pretty fed up calling around now, I might try Bell later on today (must try and do some work before I go home tonight)

Thanks

Well, I've just spent an hour on the phone and internet trying to get insurance for my new mini...bit of a difficult task as I have no no-claims...

Blimey, who'd have thought there was such a massive variation...

Cheapest is Direct Line at £786 and most expensive is Norwich Union at £2301!!!

Mini cover came in at £845.

Oh dear...so it looks like it'll be the little red phone for me

Black ONE - Salt Pack, Boost, CD Changer, ASC&T, 8 Spokes, Alarm and Glovebox

Arrived 16/10/02 and I love it

Driving lights, aero spoiler and some chrome bits to follow...

Surprised...

When I got my Mini in Jan I was 27, 1 years no claims (work car) with a theft the previous year of a car stereo resulting in a £1,200 losses claim...

I did get a lot of high quotes, most around the £800 to £1,000 mark, which almost stopped me buying my Cooper, but then Elephant came in at £450 (for their 10 month policy) with myself, my partner (not spouse) and Mother all listed as drivers...

Although I guess area has something to play in the game as well...

Certainly shows it is worth shopping around - but don't you get fed up with filling in all the same forms on the insurance sites!

just done the full rounds for the following driver profile:
35 yo + spouse
10 yrs protected ncd
16000 miles pa
£14000 value cooper

cheapest were More Than @ £323 (£348 with lifetime protected ncd, regardless of number of claims made)

most expensive were Mini @ £387

not a massive difference but £64 = more MINI goodies!

other companies contacted that fell inside this price range were
Abbey National
Sainsburys
E-Sure
Elephant
Direct Line
AXA

all the above were internet quotes, none specified the car in any more detail than One, Cooper or Cooper S. The value of the car covers the factory options specified

Bell annoyed me by repeatedly sending me "your car insurance is due for renewal" junk mail every two or three months. I have never had a policy with them and, after that, never will.

I was told that the insurance company would only pay to return the vehicle to factory standard spec - ie. with no options. That means my Xenon lights could make a big hole in my wallet if I tailgate someone.

What ****es me off is that the insured value includes all the options. Robbing *******s !

I was told that too - I guess that is why MINI offer you the ability to insure the 'extra' at a nominal fee

Insurance

Bell Direct told me that after I had placed my Insyurance with them when I added the 16" wheels. It turns out the Pepper Pack, 16" wheels, leather etc. are not coverred even though I am paying for them in the Premium - Needless to say they will have to be really competitive on renewal to keep our business.

Indi Blue with white bits, 15" pepper pots with 185/65 15 NCT 5 Tyres, Pepper pack, leather, air, trip, alarm, CD boost & TLC!!

I just checked about.

It seems neither Admiral, elephant or direct line cover your option extras.

They will only cover the cost of returning to factor basic spec!!

So If the cars stuffed, I can forget the chilli pack...no aircon, 1/2 leather seats , alloys, xenon lights.

The mini insurance online site wasn't totally clear.

I'm 29 , no points or claims, one driver.

£550 approx with elephant or £680 with Mini Insur.

Bugger .... what do you do!!!

I signed up with Churchill and for the avoidance of doubt I sent them a letter (when I sent my proof of no claims - so they can't deny receiving it) listing out the full option list that made up the purchase price.

Hopefully that should avoid any arguments if the worst should happen.

S collected...as promised at 12:00 on 29 Oct - really getting to know it now - great car - DS (black roof), full leather, sunroof, full Chilli and most of the other bits...got a bit carried away at the dealership!!!
