Genuine Mini Insurance

Anyone got reports with the genuine Mini Insurance on the website.

I just had a quote from them and they seem very professional and reasonably priced and also the call centre seems to be in the UK unlike my current insurance provider (more than)

I'm afraid I haven't got a good word to say about them.

I called them to ask for a quotation for fitting Koni FSD shock absorbers to the car and how it would affect my existing policy with them. I was told that it would not affect my premiums and that my excess would remain unchanged.

I therefore ordered the Koni FSDs online. Prior to having them fitted, I called back to double check that my premiums and excesses would remain unchanged. I was assured that my policy would not be affected in any way by the addition of Koni FSD shocks providing the factory OEM springs were being reused. I was instructed to notify them when the shocks were fitted to the car so that they could send out an updated covernote.

I fitted the Koni FSD shock absorbers using the factory OEM springs and called them on my mobile from the garage as the job was completed.
"Oh, Sir... that's a significant performance increase. We will have to increase your excess and adjust your premiums."

What?!?! I reminded them that I had been quoted no change on two separate occasions by two completely different members of staff. I was told that as a "show of goodwill" they would waiver the increase to the premium for the remainder of the year - but that it would come into effect on renewal. However, I would have to accept the increase in my excess from £600 to £1200 otherwise my policy would be invalidated and I would lose the current year's no claims bonus I'd been building.

If you're planning on keeping your MINI stock standard (no modifications of any kind) then they're no different to any other insurer. Not particularly helpful - but not disastrous.

If you're planning on making even the slightest change to the specification of your MINI - I'd run a mile from MINI COVER (UK Insurance Ltd). They'll tell you one thing before the modification and then do something completely different once the modification is made and they've got you bent over the proverbial barrel.

How would I describe MINI COVER (UK Insurance Ltd)?
Dishonest
Untrustworthy
Insidious
My next insurer will be Adrian Flux (Trinity Lane). I have a quote with them for insurance, but the written quotation has a few very minor discrepancies to the verbal quotation over the phone. I'm planning on calling them soon to sort that out - but it sounds like they're going to be understanding of modifications.

Hope that was helpful.

All the best,
Andrew.

Insurance Companies Strange Rules

I dont like them either, after they basically voided my insurance and told me they made a mistake insuring me in the first place (see link above)

I think they are very poor for anything other than the most basic mods, they overcharge and have sloppy admin (+1 to Jo's point)

I don't even want to think what they'd be like if I tried to make a claim (not that I ever plan to, lol)

I was offered a reasonable quote when I bought the 1st S in 05, but did'nt take it up as my existing insurer offered a slightly better deal to keep my custom. I've been back for new quotes at each renewal. I've just changed from Budget who were pretty good last year to Direct Line for the GP.
Direct Line were nearly 50% less than the renewal quote I had from Budget, MINI were higher than budget this time round, so it was an easy decision. I'm also covered for vandalism and uninsured driver incidents at no extra charge and my no claims is unaffected providing there is a valid crime number and I pay the excess.

I used them for two/three years, and they were fine until I wrote off my car and now I wouldn't go back - they have been a real pain in the a*$3 regarding the settlement of my claim with GAP insurance - in the end I used the Insurance Ombudsman as they refused to play ball with me

Not had any problems with MINI Insurance, they were very helpful when my previous car was bumped whilst parked in a car park.

No insurance companies like paying out.

I'd certainly never consider going back to Norwich Union. A previous claim took nearly a year to resolve.

I also tried quotes from MINI insurance and they were significantly higher than Direct Line who I am now with - strange though as its Direct Lines parent company who provide the insurance for both.
