Then I'm getting robbed by Flux's. I paid overy £500 for a 6-year old standard Cooper S, having held a full licence for nearly 20 years and over ten years of NCB!

Its £350 on top of the standard excess I think. I did the quote online and hen phoned them up to confirm everything.

I didn't choose the ncb protection or legal expenses. It would have been £340 with though. I did choose guaranteed hire car though.

How do you insure a Factory Works though, or any Works for that matter?!

That seems like a daft question BUT...

...on the insurers systems they have say :

"John Cooper Works" (but no "John Cooper Works CHILI")
"Cooper S CHILI" (but no "Cooper S Works CHILI")

My car for example is insured as "Cooper S CHILI" but if I were to change it, or add the works kit, I either have to insure one or the other, or do you add the Works bit as a modification? Does that make sense?!

Just intrigued how people get round it

these posts raise some intersting points on JCW insurance, i.e. the difference between a factory JCW and a dealer fitted pre delivery JCW kit.

Most owners - unless they bought the car new - would have no idea if the JCW kit was fitted on the production line or at the dealer in my view and for an insurance company to try and alter the price based upon which tech tightened up the bolts is immoral.

I for one know my JCW is dealer fit but only cos i am chasing a copy of the certificate and spoke to the supplying dealer. Insurance is due for renewal in a few weeks and I have in the past just made it clear it is a JCW - no one has ever asked me who put the kit on it! At end of the day it's the same kit as far as I am aware just put on post production and pre delivery rather than on the assembly line in plant....but happy to be told otherwise of course.

half the trouble i found this year is finding on line quotes which even list a JCW MCS as an option when selecting the car! esure currently wining for me and with £75 cashback via quidco seems they will get the money.

Now ive found it out!

Mine is insured as a 'John Cooper Works' with CHILI Pack listed seperatly. I checked this 3 times with them before I went ahead with it and each time they read it back to me.

When the certificate came through it was listed as 'Cooper S Works' and when I rang back to state it was the wrong car, they couldnt understand it as it was still showing there end as a JCW Turns out that when they send it to be printed, for a JCW it manages to change the car and they cant then edit it!! They still have it listed correctly but ive made them send me a letter confirming exactly what car they are insuring. Numpties!

Bit of news (or maybe you already know) Endsleigh do not consider anything a mod if it is all fitted from new ie before delivery.
My last car had the Works Tuning Kit installed after delivery, the lastest was dealer fit before delivery. It saved me £190!
