Offline | well i phoned up tesco insurance today, and they want £138 if I was to change my standard 15" 8 spokes to the S Spokes. Surely they have no way of knowing what wheels I had on my car when I took out insrance with them? I told them I had alloys when I got first got the ONE and that they were not the standard steel wheels, they said the alloys I have now are covered (as they came from the factory) but if I was to put S spokes on, they would charge me for it. I just don't get it. Should I just put the S Spokes on, and have them think the car had 17's when it first came out of the factory? or can they find things like this out, e.g. through the dealers? Many thanks |

Offline | cheers dom. I was thinking they would do something like that. 'Cause i phoned them up twice, the first time I phoned them up and they asked me how much the wheels are going to cost me and I said £700, then half an hour later I phoned up again and tried to chance it by saying the alloy were to be given to me by a friend. Oh well, looks as though I am going to have to cough up. Hope they wont 'do' me too heavily next year!Cheers again Dom |

Offline | Regardless of getting them from a friend, they would still have a replacement value that needs to be insured against. So that's not going to save you anything. Perhaps you should explain to them, that you're not adding £700 wheels, but upgrading the standard wheels, which have nearly an equivalent value, for a different style. Tell them that you changed your mind since ordering the car, and now want the factory optional S-Spokes. Then ask what the insurance would have been if you had originally ordered them as factory equipment. That's what you should be charged. But then, not everyone you talk to is going to empowered enough to really be helpful. You may have to be persistent. |

Offline | cheers BrantV, I'll give them a call again today and tell them its not really fair, since if I had ordered the car with those S Spokes I would not have been charged this £138. I'll tell them what you suggest and that its an upgrade, with a different style but similar value. Many thanks |
