United-Kingdom Help!

I'm 22 years of age, been driving 4 years, 4 years NCB, thinking about buying an 05 reg cooper 's' but having trouble with this insurance malarky!

Was originally going to buy a mini cooper standards but got a good deal on the insurance (£380) with aviva but tried my luck with them on a cooper 's' and they only do it for drivers aged 25+ :/

I had my father down as a named driver hence why it was so cheap, read through the other threads in here and tried my luck with those and was getting quoted 1k+, anything im doing wrong or is that how much im generally expected to pay?

Cheers for your time and advice

£1000-ish seems about right... that's what I was paying at 21 (Cooper S Works, 3 years no claims if I remember correctly), and even now, 4 years later, I'm still paying roughly the same amount on a new JCW.

The Cooper S, Works and JCW are desirable, quick cars which are expensive to fix, hence a lot of us pay a premium when it comes to insurance. I was running a Fiesta ST last year and paid less than half what the MINI costs me for insurance. It's just one of those things I guess!

Try getting a quote on a GP... that might put the 'S' insurance into context.

The Cooper S is group 15 and the cooper is group 8 so may be its best to go with a cooper for afew years before moving onto the S .... both great cars and both give you that smile

Insurance is expensive on the cooper s, i had a VXR before, and that was nearly 150 quid cheaper. Im nearly 40 and still have to pay 400 pound for my mini.
