Question Admiral and mini cooper pepper pack

Hi,

I am a buying a 2007 mini cooper with pepper pack. Its a used mini from mini approved dealer. I have been driving my dad's car for over 1 year as named driver. So i dont have NCB. I got insurance from admiral through confused.com for £4k, comprehensive. I mentioned alloy wheels on confused.com but couldn't find options to add pepper pack. What would happen if I dont declare pepper pack as modification? I don't care if they replace pepper pack if something happens. Would my insurance be void in the event of a claim? I haven't got the car yet or started driving it. I dont want to drive without insurance. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Roy

When I got my new MCS with Chili and Sport packs I had the same problem when I got my quote through comparethemarket.com. So because I couldn't afford to run the risk of deeming the policy null and void through not declaring the packs (even tho the website didn't give me the option to declare them) I took a note of the quotation reference number and rang the insurance company direct and advised them of the factory options. They were familiar with the Chili but not the Sport. They wanted to know what the Sport Pack included. Luckily I had a booklet with it all in. The guy referred it to their underwriters and came back and said it was fine. They tend to be ok with factory mods but I would always make them aware. If they can get out paying up in the event of a claim then they will so I tend to tell them everything!

Thanks for the response. I phoned them up to add pepper pack, they said it would cost 800 more. As I found a quote for 4.5k from elephant, I cancelled the policy.

No problem, glad you eventually got sorted. Bummer about the extra cost though but at least you'll have peace of mind now. Also, when you get your policy documents through make sure Elephant specify Pepper on your Schedule. Good luck with the new car. Post some pics when you get it.

Admiral hasn't cancelled the policy even though I asked one of their employees to cancel it through the phone. I haven't received any physical documents yet. I phoned them today to see if they have cancelled the policy. They said no. So I asked them not to cancel it until saturday as I have to pick up my car on friday. I can't get elephant insurance until they refund the money.

I am thinking about buying a cheaper insurance with higher excess (£3000) and hope for the best. Got a quote for £2500 on comparethesupermarket from one call direct. Not sure if they are any good.

Elephant and admiral are the same people?? Why not just get one to match the other?

Also ur insurance is mad! Have u added ur mum n dad to the cover? That brought mine down quite a bit with admiral

I know. I am trying insurance brokers now. The lady from admiral checked quote from elephant and said its a different car because it has the word pepper at the end of the car name. So they want me to pay another 800. I tried adding my dad as named driver one time and it increased the premium by £1k. I will try again. My mom doesn't drive and my dad has only 1 year NCB (and 1 year experience. We both got our licenses around the same time). May be thats why the premium went up.
