Hi,

I am 19 and have a Mini Cooper S.
I know this will shock many people, but I have worked hard to be able to buy and drive this car! :)

The problem I have is that I had an Alfa Romeo 147 before the Mini and insurance was £850 for 12 months. But I decided to Purchase the Cooper S 6 months into the policy, so the insurance was an extra £400. (Not bad I hear you say)
In Feb 2011 my insurance ends and I will have to have a complete new policy. I have 3 years NCB.

Does anyone know of any good/cheap insurance companies for the type of car and age? Ive heard adding a lady named driver helps?
Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Rhys.

Thats cheap

I brought a brand new MINI One for my 19th it was my 1st car

My insurance was £2100 fully comp - I am the main driver

Yes its true if you put your mum or any female of any kind the price will drop

It took £500 off my policy

I am with Admiral they have been the cheapest for me all my driving life

I am getting a Brand MINI Works soon!!!

My insurance is going up again to £2000 for the works but at the moment i am driving a BMW 323i - 2.5L and its costing me £900 fully comp

I hope this helps

any chance of pics of your MCS

Many thanks for all the comments!

I was thinking of putting my girlfriend on the insurance to drop the price. But as she is 18 it will probably increase it! And not sure having her driving my mini is a wise thing at all... :p

Here are some photo's of my mini.

P.S. Im sure all young Cooper S/ JCW mini drivers are the same and know that there is no better feeling than at traffic lights pulling away from kids in corsa's and saxo's :D

i am 19 and going to buy my first car looking to get the Mini Cooper s brand new, anyone recommend what insurance company to go to and what to say to get my insurance cheap please!
If you do the IAM Skills for Life course, you'll be eligible for the IAM Surety insurance scheme (depending on what a low group car means) which apparently can save a small fortune, especially for young drivers...

No experience personally but friends with Focus ST's, etc speak of it very highly and say the course made them faster, safer drivers to boot.

More info at IAM Surety Car UK - IAM Surety

Hi Rizwan.

Im 20 and have just had my renewal through whoch was £1200 something with Adrian Flux. When I was 19 I had the cooper s. But I was already half way through the policy with an Alfa Romeo so it was an extra £400 for the mini.

As for upgrades, I'm finding the mini cooper s as standard is quick enough! Any faster and I think uprated brakes would be needed..
It also depends if you are going for the R53 or the R56 newer mini. Supercharged or Turbocharged.

Hi guys,

im also a 19 year old boy, i pay 2000 fully comp with 2 years ncb. Im with admiral, i put my dad on the policy and it saved me 700 pound!! i put my girlfriend whos 18 onit and that also reduced it by 100quid. however like one of you said, its not very wise putting the misses on the policy sometimes i wish i paid the extra 100 quid! :L :) haha.

And about the beating kids in corsas and saos off the lights, i love that too!

Hi,

I had a Sierra Cosworth when I was 20, people thought I was nuts paying £1,200 FC (10 years ago) but I recommend you do what you have to do as you are only young once and when a crippling mortgage nails your finances at least you can reveal on how you enjoyed your youth??!! - Hopefully you will still have a Mini in years to come and the insurance will be much cheaper as 'age' will be in your favour.

....... back to real cars now ...... Minis'.....

We have been with Adrian Flux since 1998 and although we got a quote from Shelia's Wheels (my Wife owns the Mini) Adrian Flux smashed them on their price when we told them we could get the Mini CS insured elsewhere!

Just my 2p's worth!!

Regards MV

Adrian Flux

Adrian Flux is the company I am using now: Classic Car Insurance & Specialist Car Insurance | Adrian Flux

They were cheaper than all the others, they allow modifications to the car without ripping you off and they are familiar with dealing with customer enquiries about modifications. So thankfully you don't have to speak to the sort of brain-dead morons many of the big insurance brokers seem to employ.

When asking for an insurance quotation you should mention you are a registered member of Mini2.com or MiniTorque.com, as that can earn a small reduction in the premium.

20 Year old.

I have just got a quote on the MCS im buying - 04 plate.

I was on my mum's policy for a year on admiral a couple of years back (since then - direct line - but they won't touch me!)

Admiral gave me a years no claims and its £1200 from the DAY (and I mean the DAY I turn 21). Being 20 and 364 days means the policy would be £2200! I thought it'd be on a sliding scale - but obviously not!

Also had the Dillemma.. £1400 and DONT insure the missus or £1200 with her on. Not sure if that was a great idea... "ooppsss that was the kerb... ooops that was a road cone"! Soon will be £200 spent on repairs? :p

Have you tried the compare the market / confused.com, that is prob the best place to see who will cover you, but you may find that anyone who will take you on will want a really high premium.

I am with Aviva but they will not to touch you youngest daughter as a named driver on it as she is under 21. I did get the 7 days free drive away insurance through the dealer and they were happy to add her on for that but they did want £3600 for the year with her as a named driver.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Must admit I got my girls to get Cheap & Cheerfull cars to start with and then rack up a couple of years bonus and then go onto the nicer cars so the insurance is not so much a shock.

But then again they are Girlies and dont suffer the huge premiums that boys dom well for the time being anyway.

Im currently insuring my girlfriends 2003 Cooper S as she got it half way through a policy and even tho she is 42 and had a license for 24 years, no points and no accidents LV wouldnt insure her as she only has 2 years no claims in her own name! Stupid thing is she can insure my RX8 which is more powerful and RWD.

I am currently paying 880 to Adrian Flux with 7 years no claims at 32 with no points or accidents ever, that to me seems really expensive especially when shes just been quoted 660 for the MCS when she renews in her name in mid june. Stupid thing is the cheapest quote she got was LV again who wouldnt insure her this year.

I looked at my insurance as when my girlfriend insures the mini i want to change to an M3 and they only want a £40 premium to change from the mini to the M3 so it highlights to me that some insurance companies look on the MCS very badly, far more expensive than its group suggests!

Not strictly true... I've found that adding a 4th driver (regardless of who it is) puts the policy up, rather than reducing it as 2nd and 3rd drivers often do, and obviously if you add someone who is more of a risk than yourself, that isn't going to help either.

I've also just switched from "parked on road" to "parked on driveway" and it has saved me about £50/year, although bizarrely adding "parked in garage" would save me nothing (I checked out of curiosity :D).
