Cooper S Insurance 19 Years Old

Hi,

I am 19 and have a Mini Cooper S.
I know this will shock many people, but I have worked hard to be able to buy and drive this car!

The problem I have is that I had an Alfa Romeo 147 before the Mini and insurance was £850 for 12 months. But I decided to Purchase the Cooper S 6 months into the policy, so the insurance was an extra £400. (Not bad I hear you say)
In Feb 2011 my insurance ends and I will have to have a complete new policy. I have 3 years NCB.

Does anyone know of any good/cheap insurance companies for the type of car and age? Ive heard adding a lady named driver helps?
Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Rhys.

Thats cheap

I brought a brand new MINI One for my 19th it was my 1st car

My insurance was £2100 fully comp - I am the main driver

Yes its true if you put your mum or any female of any kind the price will drop

It took £500 off my policy

I am with Admiral they have been the cheapest for me all my driving life

I am getting a Brand MINI Works soon!!!

My insurance is going up again to £2000 for the works but at the moment i am driving a BMW 323i - 2.5L and its costing me £900 fully comp

I hope this helps

any chance of pics of your MCS

Many thanks for all the comments!

I was thinking of putting my girlfriend on the insurance to drop the price. But as she is 18 it will probably increase it! And not sure having her driving my mini is a wise thing at all...

Here are some photo's of my mini.

P.S. Im sure all young Cooper S/ JCW mini drivers are the same and know that there is no better feeling than at traffic lights pulling away from kids in corsa's and saxo's

Hi Rizwan.

Im 20 and have just had my renewal through whoch was £1200 something with Adrian Flux. When I was 19 I had the cooper s. But I was already half way through the policy with an Alfa Romeo so it was an extra £400 for the mini.

As for upgrades, I'm finding the mini cooper s as standard is quick enough! Any faster and I think uprated brakes would be needed..
It also depends if you are going for the R53 or the R56 newer mini. Supercharged or Turbocharged.

Rhys.

If you do the IAM Skills for Life course, you'll be eligible for the IAM Surety insurance scheme (depending on what a low group car means) which apparently can save a small fortune, especially for young drivers...

No experience personally but friends with Focus ST's, etc speak of it very highly and say the course made them faster, safer drivers to boot.

More info at IAM Surety Car UK - IAM Surety

I recently looking into upgrading to Cooper S... My insurance company won't insure anyone under 25 in one... Gutted!

Will have to wait till policy is up as I'm already half way through.

Hi guys,

im also a 19 year old boy, i pay 2000 fully comp with 2 years ncb. Im with admiral, i put my dad on the policy and it saved me 700 pound!! i put my girlfriend whos 18 onit and that also reduced it by 100quid. however like one of you said, its not very wise putting the misses on the policy sometimes i wish i paid the extra 100 quid! :L haha.

And about the beating kids in corsas and saos off the lights, i love that too!

Hi,

I had a Sierra Cosworth when I was 20, people thought I was nuts paying £1,200 FC (10 years ago) but I recommend you do what you have to do as you are only young once and when a crippling mortgage nails your finances at least you can reveal on how you enjoyed your youth??!! - Hopefully you will still have a Mini in years to come and the insurance will be much cheaper as 'age' will be in your favour.

....... back to real cars now ...... Minis'.....

We have been with Adrian Flux since 1998 and although we got a quote from Shelia's Wheels (my Wife owns the Mini) Adrian Flux smashed them on their price when we told them we could get the Mini CS insured elsewhere!

Just my 2p's worth!!

Regards MV
