Current Insurer refuse to insure Cooper S

Hi Guys

Just ordered a Cooper S after previously having one before my current car.

Problem is my current insurer, Swiftcover are refusing to transfer my insurance policy to a Cooper S - there reasons being (quoted exactly from Swiftcover) 'its a high performance car and at 24 years old your too young for it'.

Even worse they'll happpily insure my 3 month old VW Scirocco! Although of course this is probably in a lower insurance group etc. The Cooper S is just over 12 months old.

Worst of all i earn another years no cliams in March, therefore i need to try and keep the no cliams!

Anyone have any legal ideas on what i can do to keep my no cliams and then change to a different insurer on renewal?

Thanks in advance

check this thread will give you an idea of age & prices..

I'd rather push my mini than drive a ford or anything french..

Criteria for buying a diesel..1)long journeys.2)motorway miles.3)minimum 14k mls per yr..

Thanks for your reply.

Would i lose my years no cliams im due in March this year if i was to cancel my policy now? Or is it possible to transfer it to another insurer on sort of a temporary basis who will insure the Cooper S and then i get the years no cliams im owed in March? Then start a new 12 month policy with that insurer? Therefore i assume need to somehow keep my current insurance running till March?

Thanks

Don't want to rub salt into your wounds here but did you not call your insurance company before commiting to buy the Cooper S to check you would be insured or a change in your premium?

Give Greenlight insurance a call, i've been with them for a few years now, was insured at 24yr old by them with a Ford Focus ST-2 insurance group 17 so give them a try, best prices i've found for the last four years.

Hope you get sorted

Thanks for your reply, the actual question im asking is which im assuming the answer is yes to is...............If i cancel my current insurance policy and go with another insurer will i lose my no cliams for my current policy for this year? My renewal is in March which isn't too far away at all so i was wondering if there was any way i could somehow transfer the insurance or something and earn this years no cliams? If i pay the reamaining amount owed on my insurance which is of course only a couple of months i assume then i still wouldn't qualify for no cliams for this year as i won't have my current car after the end of this month? My last direct debit actually goes out this month for my current insurance policy but the policy runs till sometime in march.

I don't have a problem actually getting insurance at a reasonable price its just with my current insurer(swiftcover) who don't want to insure the Cooper S. If i go on comparison sites i get more than enough good quotes back. Just my main concern was trying to save my no cliams bonus for this year, as i only have 3 years no cliams so far. Ive held my licence for 5 years but i've only had my own car/insurance for 4 years this march.

Thanks in advance

A rock and a hard place ! You won't earn the NCB till you have completed the year ending in March.
I'm guessing that you want to insure the S from March with another insurance provider and benefit from 4 years NCB.
In the meantime...you have to let the swiftcover policy run till March and SORN / delay delivery of your new S.
Tough I know, but if you don't your NCB will be out of step with the start of your new S policy and it will cost you a lot of money till this time next year...
Short term policies are really dear as well....
John

My son swapped insurers when he bought his new car. He had 1 year & 10 months NCB but the new insurers gave him credit for 2 years anyway. May be worth ringing around and seeing what other insurers will do.

Seems like a very fair solution! Obviously would've been better if they'd simply used some common sense and agreed to insure you in the first place, but a fair solution to the problem all the same.

Even worse than this were First Direct, i'm 26 but they refused to continue covering me AND made me pay a cancellation fee! Said i'd have to be 30 before they'd cover me on a Cooper S, this despite having been with them, claims free, for 3 years!

Went to Adrian Flux and got a great deal though!
