United-Kingdom looking at getting a mini one

always wanted a mini for years, passed my test two days ago (yes already looking haha) and i was looking at a mini one, 1.6 and i found a few i like and have had a look, iv been aroud looking at insurance and for my first year it would be just over £3,000 , i looked for a really old fiat and found insurance came up cheapest at £8,000 which was odd and when i rang up so i thought i might aswel get a mini now, just wondering if anyone knows the best place for insurance, and if the car has a sunroof im guessing the accesorry roofs you buy you cant use on one with a sunroof? mainly insurance i need help with thanks

Welcome to the forum - congrats on passing your test!

Check out this thread for some good advice on insurance. Page 2 onwards is recent, and I've put my 2p in as far as suggestions for a new driver.

Elephant are usually competitive for younger drivers but it can often pay to get a year or twos experience with no claims as a second driver on a suitable car owned by a parent and their ins policy at a much lower price....... as long as you keep your mileage down and are not the main driver. Of course your parent(s) need to trust you!

I know it won't help your 'street cred' much but have you also tried for quotes on a basic Ford Ka or a 1.0 Nissan Micra just to get mobile and gain experience for your first year driving?

now, for modyifiying, does that mean if you have added things like stripes to the car etc, or just if the engines been messed with?

Most are ok with stripes and basic 'factory' type options or add a small charge but always best to check if any doubt. Engine or performance mods will cost more especially if you are a young and inexperienced driver and will void your insurance if not declared.
