Geico so cheap, JCW?

All,

I just bought an '07 JCW Mini. This is when JCW was still a kit, but in the case of my Mini (so I'm told), it was fitted at the factory rather than at the dealer. I got quotes for insurance from Esurance (Allstate), Progressive, and Geico.

Geico didn't draw a distinction between models, so as far as their website is concerned there was only one model in 2007.... the MINI. This may be why they gave me a quote basically half of what the others quoted. Naturally I took it, but wondered if anyone else had an issue with this? If something were to happen, how would I prove these were factory options? The sale did not include the window sticker :-/

Let me know, thanks!

Not sure how it would work with US law but in UK you would be at risk of not be insured properly and having to pay aditional premiums or even having your policy declared void.
You can't just pick the closest model to your because they don't have your's on the list, you would need to phone them up for a proper quote
if your insurance documents just say Mini, not JCW Mini or Mini Cooper S with a JCW tuning kit, what do expect them replace it with if it get's written off?

The 2nd Gen JCW Engine Tuning Kit is an Aftersales Accessory not a factory option. It might have been fitted at the Vehicle Processing Center after arrival in the US rather than by a dealer, but not at the factory.

The insurance company is most likely using the VIN to identify the model. The Vehicle Code portion of the VIN for a 2nd Gen MCS model (with or without a JCW Tuning Kit) is different from that of a John Cooper Works model.

If you want coverage for your JCW Kit you'll probably have to declare it as a modification.
