MCS insurance $ vs 350z insurance $

I am going to get a car soon and really want the 350z for the extra power. My parents tell me that insurance is too much, they dont really know, but it makes since. So I was wondering what the insurance price for each car is.

I figure they should be close. The MCS is supercharged, small, and has the 's'. The 350z is a 2 seater, bigger, and has more power. That's the basis of my guess. Or if you could tell me where to find out the prices that would be great too.

Thanks.

The 350Z will be more simply because it is a "sports car". The MINI will be less, how much I do not know. There are online insurance quotes, but I don't know any site offhand that do that. If you are male, under the age of 25, and live in the US, the insurance won't be cheap either way.

To give you an idea, I am 23, no tickets, no accidents, good student, on parents policy... and paying $3,000 a year right now. It was $3,300 until I got my grades this semester, they gave me a $300 discount for that. Woohoo

Thanks. I knew it wouldnt be cheap either way. All the cars I want are labeled as sports cars I think (RSX type S, MCS, 350 Z, etc...). I'll run the Z angle by them again and we will have a disscussion, maybe I could work when I go to FSU to help pay some of it.

I had a similar decision to make when I bought my MINI since the 350ZX was around the same price as an Cooper S if you take in the account of the markups :\

As I found out from my insurance company, the MSRP is the important factor in insuring the car. So consider the MSRP on a MINI is 20K for the base model S. The 350ZX is around 29K. Of course there are all the other factors stated above.

You can't go wrong with either car, but I stuck with the MINI since it's more exclusive.

Besides, a Nissan still a Nissan.

Easiest way is just to call your agent. There are big differences across areas of the country, your age and accident/citation experience, etc. Two main components to insurance - Liability & collision/theft/damage. If you are in an area with high theft, cost to repair, etc, the Z should be a whole lot more based on the MSRP. If you have a bad record, or the people in your area do, Liability is going to be higher.

Just as a point of reference, my MCS is a $600 annual addon to my $700 annual '97 Explorer policy. So it is about $1,300 annual for both. But I am in Central Ohio, safe and low cost, outside the city center, have a good record, and am (well) over 25. YMMV

Regards,

Dave

When I was shopping for insurance, I was getting quotes all over the board; the highest was 50% more than the lowest.

Like RickB says -- call around. Costs for the same coverage can vary widely between different insurers. Just make sure you're comparing apples to apples (same coverage for each quote).

A point in your favor is that the MINI has rear seats, while the 350Z does not. That puts it in a different rate category.

You get an insurance discount for getting good (I presume) grades?? You would need any discount for prices like that! And I compalined about my $1100Aus (~$US600).
