Insurance for younger drivers!

How much are people paying for there insurance? Im 20 and the insurance for my Cooper is going to cost £730 with direct line. I have 3 years no claims. Will the fact of me upgrading to chilli pack and then 17inch alloys affect my premium as i havent notified the company as it is coming from the factory with these on

Thanks Andy

Changing your car to chilli with the 17's shouldn't effect the price of your insurance much - only tell them the spec if they ask, some companies i spoke to were well aware of the options available on the car and asked me if i had salt etc but thne others just asked if it had been modified after leaving the factory.
£750? i'm on my second year now and im still paying more than double that!!

Have you tried www.elephant.co.uk? I used them and have been told by a few people they are one of the cheapest insurers at the moment. I am paying £750 on my mcs, im only 25 but do have 5 years no claims. Still the mcs is a few groups higher than the cooper, so it could be worth a try. Quotes online are good, the only drawback is you have to pay it all in one go. Can't pay in installments.

Direct Line load the Chili Pack by 10% and they may load more for 17" wheels.

Check out Elephants Policy Wording first before getting a quote. Although they have a section where they allow you to declare options, they have a disclaimer on paying out for options in the event of a claim; ie they will only return the car to it's standard spec.

Directline asked me specifically the spec of my car. They are aware of SALT, PEPPER & CHILLI. My car model is listed as MINI ONE SALT.

If I were you I'd tell them.

Try Tesco online. I'm paying £560 for my mini cooper and that includes my partner as well for fully comp. If you book it online you get a discount also.

Whatever you do, don't use Adrian Flux - they are absolute robbers! I think I'm going to have to declare my list of mods and brace myself for a nasty premium hike!

MINI Going.....Toyota Supra RZ-S Twin Turbo Coming....Standing Quarter, anyone....?

Years ago in my semi-Max Power/Riceboy days, I used Adrian Flux, until I found out that they charged £25 for each amendment, alteration etc - want a Green Card, £25 please! Temporary loan vehicle, £25 please! Don't know if they still do this but it's left a sour taste in my mouth.

dietcokeplease - You're just down the road from me, I'm in Beckenham! Wonder how many other Kent MINIs there are on here! Anyway, look, here's a thought - try picking up a copy of MiniWorld / Mini Magazine from the newsagents and phone up a few of the insurance companies in there. That's what I'll be doing - I've a feeling all my mods are really going to hit me where it hurts...

I went for elephant.co.uk, I'm 22 with no no claims (been on company car scheme) + my girlfriend who has been driving for 4 months, £1400. My car has lots of extras so took out the mini shortfall insurance. £350 for 3 years which in the event of my car being a write off mini shortfall will cover the difference between what your insurance pays out (list price £14600 - depreciation) and your purchase price (£17000+).

lets just hope I don't have to use it ;0)
