Who is the youngest S driver in Britain and how much to insure?

If you don't mind me asking this would be useful. I have 6 years no claims and at 23 my current insurer won't touch an 'S' MINI will insure it for £1100 with £400 excess. Bear in mind I have an IAM driving test pass as well.

At the moment I have a Steptronic but now want a manual it costs £750 to insure. Do you think the jump in insurance is worth it?

Thanks!

The Mini quote sounds pretty good. I am 22 and pay 1400 with Tesco's. That is not including the Hartge converson though!!!

DS/Black Cooper S, Chilli pack, Full leather, Climate DSC, Clear lights and 212 ponies Hartge kit.

Guys,

Have you had any scary moments? As we are all quite young what I am getting at it is do you think with your experience and the ease of driving the car do you get into any hairy moments.

What I am trying to find out is whether the car is quite safe and planted?

I'm 24 and have been quoted £947 with Tesco for my JCW S. Thats with 6 years no claims, IAM approved and no convictions or claims, garaged, good postcode.

My previous 2 cars;

Caterham 7 Superlight - £1400 with Footman James when I was 20.

Lotus Elise S2 (Sport 135)- £1250 with Direct Line when I was 22.

I would consider all of these "low" quotes for my ages, however, non of these companies would have touched me without my no claims bonus.

From doing a bit of digging around, I will probably go for Tesco's policy next month if Footman James cannot better it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

How the hell can he afford (or even get insured on) that - like many of us on the forum i would also like an S and although at a stretch i might just be able to afford the car, there is no way i could also afford the £3400 insurance i was quoted
I'll wait another year and try again

A Black One to a VX220 .. onto a 250bhp Focus RS . . . and now an 05 MCS

Hi Chris,

Where abouts in Essex do you live? Must be a better postcode than mine. I have exactly the same insurance record 6yrs NCB and IAM and the best I can get is £1163.90 with MINI and £500 excess!

James

James,

I live in a small village just outside of Maldon. It's around about 12.5 miles from Chelmsford.

The further out from London you get, the better the quotes seem to get

I was 20 when I ordered my MINI Cooper S (now 21). My insurance is just £802 with MINI Insurance (same quote from www.egg.com). I am female, live near Wolverhampton, 3 years NCB and this insures my boyfriend to drive my precious car too. He has 4 years NCB and is 21.

I was very surprised at how low the quote was at the time, considering they are insuring two young people in their early twenties. I mean to add the Hartge specification on in December, so I expect I'll have to bump my boyfriend off the insurance to afford to be covered! He currently drives a S2K with Tesco Insurance for £2000. Tesco seem to be the best for guys.

A few dealerships were very disbelieving when I walked into the showrooms to enquire about the MCS and thus lost my business! I settled on Benham MINI in Wolverhampton who even told me that the MCS was "a bit special" and why didn't I try the Renault garage nearby as they had a good deal on a Clio!!
Has anyone else experienced prejudiced MINI salespeople?

Having the car is worth all the fuss though!
