Question Insurance Mini Cooper S

We ordered a mini cooper s last month and are due to recieve it on the 24th June. Quick delivery i know!

What is the cheepest price which anyone has had for an 18yr old driver?

I would be a named driver along with my mum who is between 40-50 and has had no accidents or anything like that. My brother who is 21 and had no accidents. I've never made a claim either.

My dad who would be the main driver is 50 and has never made a claim, no convictions and has full no claims bonus.

The cheapest with protected no claims which we have found so far is £2600.. anyone know of somwhere which we can get it cheaper?

Any info would be much appriciated, i can't wait to drive it!

Wow! First of all - geat news on the quick delivery of the MCS! and welcome to the site! As regarding insurance I am aware of a friend (although is 10 years your senior!) as a named driver and his premium is about 590! Try Norwich Union Direct - do you have access to other cars in the house and is the car on adrive / in the garage?

Sukhjit- MINI NOW GONE - did have a 2002 MCS - Dark Silver / Black with Chili pack

Try Tesco's insurance, they are always good!

The car is in a garage that is alarmed and monitored...

I'm driving a mercedes bens a-class 1.7tdi at the moment. The insurance for that is only a couple of hundred with the details i listed above. However, this car is a present for my mum, from my dad as a 25th wedding anniversary. She doesn't know anything about it yet. It will be a replacement of the a-class after we've got the mini.

Norich Union won't insure me or my brother on it, the said it is a group 'g' or something and that you have to be 25 to drive it.

I rang tesco, they were quoting around £2600 too..

If the no claims protection is taken off, it goes down to £2000. But i think that it is worth having, and so does my dad.

Its a tricky one finding cheap insurance!

Hi. I'm due to pick up my MCS in 4 weeks so I've had a while to sort out the insurance too.
The best places are www.egg.co.uk, www.tescofinance.co.uk (Tesco Insurance), MINI Insurance.
I got good prices from them all, but I'll go with Tesco Insurance at £710 with 3 years NCB (although I reckon I have 4).
I'm 21 and female so quotes are bound to be a bit lower than for an 18 yr old.
Insurance companies can be flexible (sometimes!) with their quotes if you phone them up. I reduced my quote slightly by mentioning that my boyfriend of 21 is insured on a 2003 Honda S2000 for just £1400 with 4 years NCB with them (Tesco).

I wish you the best of luck in getting a lower insurance quote, you should be paying approx £900-1400 I reckon. There is another thread on this forum about insurance that is definitely worth reading. There's a young guy (17) who is insured on his parents MCS, it's worth PMing him to find out who he's insured with.

Thanks, that's really helpfull. I'll check out egg now..

As to the 17yr old, do you know what the thread is called or do you have a link to it??

I'd be very interested to find what he managed to get it for!

O, and whats the car like to drive? I'm used to the a-class which will go if you put your foot down...

Big_Dave 21,

The guy's name is DinkaDonka and he pays £1600.
The thread is called: Who's the youngest S driver in UK and how much to insure?

Will the Cooper S be insured for four drivers or just you and your Mum?
If the best that you've found is £2100, I'd probably take it! DinkaDonka's insurance I think is just for him and his mum. The more people that you want to be able to drive the MCS, the more money it's going to be!

It would be for all four of us. Hmm.. would two drivers make that much difference?

I see your point!

Just try putting in you and your mum and your brother and your dad in two separate quotes.

I just rang Bell Direct and they offered £1300 for all of us. The only problem that the no claims are unprotected!

Any views of protecting no claims or not?

Does chaning the air filter and exhaust change the insurance by much..? Been looking at what can be done to stop the car sounding like it's battery powered when moving off..!

Dave

Then it's classed as being modified mate and most insures won't touch it, and the ones that do with charge stupid amounts of money

In that case i think the best option would be to leave it alone until i'm older and can perhaps afford the insurance!
