Offline | I got my policy papers and guess what ....... it says BMW MINI COOPER AUTO !!! When I originally phoned I explained to the guy that it was a manual S and he went to talk to his supervisor and came back saying OK we will still honour the internet quote (which he had in front of him) but would change it to a Manual 'S' Arrrrggggggggggggg...... I phoned tonight and told the woman the situation, she then quoted an extra £192 !! I explained that I had infromed them it was an S when I originally phoned and she said she would have to check the tapes and asked 'was I sure' !!! The low down is that they will check the tapes ... if I said it was an Manual S then we could have it for £275, if not then it will go up £192 .... we will wait and see In the meantine the policy has been changed to an S. But a question for you all ......... twice now I have checked that I don't need to list the optional extras that have been fitted (Chilli, winter pack, leather, etc etc) and both times they have said that it does not need to be listed unless I have modified it myself. I am a bit nervous about this as insuring a £14k MCS has got to de different to insuring a 20K MCS ? (I noticed Tesco listed the Chili pack in the policy) Has anyone had experience of listing extras ? MCS, DS/B, 17's, Skirts, Xenons, fogs, Privacy, White lights, Leather, Climate, Heated screen, 6 CD, Multi S/Wheel, Cruise, DSC, OBC, head bags ... think that's about it ![]() My classic Mini site: www.minitalk.co.uk |

Offline | Elephant Insurance Greetings! I have just ordered and MCS and it arrives in November - Hooray! When looking for insurance I had the following responses (25, 2yrs NCB, good post code): Tesco: £1300 Direct Line: £1800 More than: £2500 Elephant: £750 So - elephant is the winner, but I am a bit worried - why are they almost half the price of everyone else?? I have called and triple checked that they have the correct details (car, age, address etc) and even joined Which? online to check them out - they rated them best on price. The point of this ramble is, if anything does happen to my £18k car, I want to be very sure that I am covered! Does anyone have any experience or opinion of elephant?? Thanks loads in advance!! |

| MINI2 Senior | Jimimac, From my experience, Elephant often quote for only a 10 month period for accelerated NCB and there is a big difference between this price and a full 12 month plan. Oh yeah, also they load the premium to the hilt when you tell them you have the chilli pack and other extras because they classify each component as a separate mod! i.e. you have to list in the modifications section that you have added 'non standard' alloy wheels and so on for every extra on the car otherwise they will not cover you. Even worse, you end up paying for these damn mods and then in the case of a total loss claim, they will only pay out for a BASE MCS!! (this is what the sales advisor admitted after a few determined questions to get to the bottom of their ambiguity). Best thing is to talk to an 'Elephant Handler' and i'm sure once all the minor details are correct such as listing the 'mods' their quote will be in line, if not more then the quotes you have already received. Also give MINI insurance a ring because they were more competitive than Elephant for me, because like you i got a cheap quote, called them and then found the truth! They wanted 110 pounds more than MINI. MINI will also pay out for an equivalent car etc God forbid something should happen to it. Cheers and good luck, Henry |

Offline | When I upped my policy from One to S I asked for a ballpark figure for the year. £900 30 years old 3 points 10 years ncb car garaged OL4 post code (This post code is officially classed as having a riot. Oldham Race riots!!!!!) But I expect to haggle this down to about £600 or less. When I went from 95 Classic to One it was £600 but I got this down to £400. It seems the company you are with will automaticly up the policy for a new car Churchill wanted £200 more than direct line for my one I even rang them back out of courtesy and they came back with £580 because "they are very good"!!!!!!!! I nearly wee'd in my pants I was laughing so much. I do shop round but have found only a hand full of companys worth the effort but it should be fun this year. |

Offline | Just a note on the situation with tints, if you have the front windows tinted, your car could legally be un-roadworthy. There basically isn't any tint that meets the legal opacity limits, therfore, if you have front tints, your car is un-roadworty in the eyes of the law, therefore your insurance is technically invalid. Thats why BMW don't tint the front windows. |

Offline | Yeah all the dealers are stripping tints coz the legal limit is about 25% and basic tinted/green windows are about 17%. Forgot to say when I insured they said is that a Cooper S, Chili or works? |

Offline | JCW insurance Has anyone tried to get a quote to add the JCW kit to an MCS? According to EVO I'm looking at Group 19 for my efforts! The kit's expensive enough without a monster premium - can anyone give me an idea? |

| 'S' on the way! | screentrade.co.uk just quoted me 8093.27! LOL! I take it this means 'go away we dont wanna know'? This was for a standard MCS. Im 24 living in completely crime free town (1 car stolen in a year and it was recovered!) with private residential parking. Only got a year's NCB but christ that is unreal. Any UK lads of similar age and only a year's NCB that can point me in some other directions? I dont expect sub-£1000 but hope for less than £1500. The annoying thing is I can afford the JCW kit and would get it if insurance wasnt such an issue. Cheers... ![]() |

AAAAAAGH! if ever catch that spotty little @#$%&$ in his baseball cap and blue nova I'll...... Offline | Liverpool Victoria actually have the MCS Works on their "standard" list of cars - as a result it's all quick and easy and relatively cheap. We went with them when the brokers I use for our other cars said they would call us back. Right! ![]() ![]() |
