Lightbulb Tyre Insurance

Considering the expense of replacing those rubberbands around the wheels if they should suffer some irreparable damage (I tried WHSmith, but they didn't have any black ones ...I thought it might be a good idea to insure them.

The RAC want £65 for 12 months cover...which for me, should equate to 24,000 miles worth of peace of mind!

I know there will be limitations, like any insurance policy, but from the information I have seen so far, so long as the tyre is legal, they will pay up to £250/tyre replacement, £50/puncture repair, with a maximum of £1250/year.

Has anybody been tempted to buy, or got any experience of Tyre Insurance policies?

For anybody that wants to look for themselves, click here RAC Tyre Ins.
Also do a search in Google, there are plenty other offerings to choose from.

Seems a good deal considering the price of the tyres.

I took out a policy with AA Tyre Insurance for £35 which covers damage/repair for £100 per tyre up to £400 per year. Thing to bear in mind is the price they quote for replacement rubber - Dunlop 16" runflat came out as £190 so I'd have to fork out £90 myself. You could argue there's not much to gain because I've seen internet prices for the tyre for around £100.

But at least the AA guy managed to repair the puncture at the time for free!
