Offline | i did all the searching recently, CAN WE HAVE AN INSURANCE BOARD??? elephant and many (they are same company as Admiral) others only cover basic cost and even want you to declare metallic paint as they class this a modification! Prices do differ but a list of who's with who can assist those on the hunt. My best all round quote was AXA, i have full no claims do less than 4k per year but a few NON FAULT claims including windscreens which seem to count and i have never had an issue with any windscreen until getting MINI! |

| Maxin' and Relaxin' | i'm 20 (21 by the time my mcs is delivered) and they cheapest quote i got that covered extra's is £2600 from mini, was £3800 when they thought i'd be 20 when i got it. elephant said all extras were covered but after reading all the stuff on here i still dont trust them, and when i phoned up the day after getting the quote to confirm it, it had gone up by £200??? and the interest worked out at over £500 if i paid monthly!! hopefully i'll find somewhere before the car is delivered as a lot of companies wont give me a quote til i'm 21 otherwise my car will still be insured in one of my parents names. |

Offline | I have to say though that Elephant has been pretty good for me. They were the cheapest I could find (including that fact that I had a little accident 2 years ago - obviously not my fault!). Plus, as my last car was insureed with them they gave me a £200 discount on the online quoted price as a returning customer. All the best, Adam |

| MINI2 Senior | Yeah, but that is under one of your parents' name i take it? I can't see that being a legit permium unless they misquoted you something cheaper at first and then realised their mistake but decided to honour the original quote anyway. Did you have to speak to a representative over the phone or could you get a quote online? Thanks in advance, Henry |

Offline | The Best I can get (I'm 20) is £1,900 under my name with my mum as a second driver and my dad as a third driver. Without my mum and dad on the policy its £2,600 - so for less money I get more, strange ? |

Offline | badboyzbadboyz, I sounds strange, but it sort of makes sense. If you get a quote for say 10,000 mile pa and then add some 'safer' drivers as named, some underwriters will assume these safer drivers will be doing say 2,000 of your 10,000 miles and adjust the premium accordingly. My quote with Esure was £475. When I added my wife it went down to £415 (around 13%). Therefore, they are assuming she's a safer driver (although she' not actually driven for about 10 years!) Cooper S DS/B, Chili pack, Auto AC, MFSW, CD Boost. Ordered 6th Dec 2003, Delivered 16 Jan 2004!! Sold August 2004 Now have a BMW 120D SE - forum details: Babybmw.net |

Offline | Yea this is true. Still, the saving I make from my parents being added is an amazing £717 - almost twice your total premium. It'x not only a saving in £ though because sometimes my parents might need to use the car so its always handy having them on the policy. Are there any other "loop holes" for insurance premiums that would lower my premium without making it void ? |

Offline | I have a question, stupid as it maybe:- As I understand it, if I insure with Elephant but don't declare my options etc and soemthing happens to it, Elephant will only pay me the price for the standard S, right? But if I have shortfall insurance BMW will pay for the difference thus paying for my options. So in theory I can use Elephant because they are the cheaper and not suffer... Does that sound right, or shall I stay off the crack pipe? |

Offline | I think if you get insured with elephant and don't declare your options then your insurance can be declared void. Why elephant are so bad is because if you do declare your extras they will up your premium but if something then happens to your car then they only give you a standard S back - without the extras you declared. Still, the point you have made about BMW covering your extras is a good one, something that I hadn't considered. |

Offline | I actually just had an email from elephant today on this point. Even if you declare your Chili pack, it is not covered. This means they wont pay out for the full value of the car (as they class the Chili pack as a modification!). Also, if you damage a 17" S alloy, and claim for it, they will pay for the standard 16" Cooper S alloy. However, i seem to remember that Mini have a package whereby if you take out this sub-policy with them (not sure how much, but is not too expensive) then if you write off your car Mini will pay the difference between what the insurance company pay out, and what the car was worth new! Not positive about this, so maybe give them a call. Hope this helps, Adam |
