Cooper S Insurance

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, and apols as I'd imagine its been covered before (though have had a look!), but.....

Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap insurance for non modified MCS's (esp in London). Getting some quotes at the moment and varying massively, from 700 to 3k , and though this is entertaining, just wondered if there was a way to insurance nirvana!

Any help appreciated, cheers.

I have decided to go with elephant insurance as they are by far the cheaper insurer for me. Still, they do have a massive downside if you have a highly specced MINI as they will not cover the extra if the worst was to happen. I think this is ridiculas but it doesn't really make much difference to me. Also find tesco and directline a good alternative. For me them 3 are the only ones worth considering because they are soo much cheaper than the rest.

hey badboyz,

i was on the phone to elephant yesterday and they say they will cover the extras and when i mentioned things like the chilli pack they new wot i was talking about. also said they would cover mods if i declare them but isurance would go up. also went up with the chilli pack but its still the cheapest ive found.

out of interest which other companes did u try as most i have phoned will only insure drivers who are 25+ on an mcs.

Unless Elephant have changed their policy VERY recently the person you spoke to is either wrong or misleading.

They will "cover" you. I.e. they will make a note that you have these modifications and/or options and therefore wont void your insurance for "undeclared" non standard specs. HOWEVER, their policy states they will NOT replaces ANYTHING that is not standard. Aircon, larger alloys, leather seats, ANYTHING that's not on a bare spec S/Cooper/One/Whatver MINI you chose.

Try BMW Insurance (& MINI Insurance, and they ARE different), as well as Liverpool Victoria.

Also, try using the search engine (www.mini2.com/forum/search.php), it's VERY good. You will find many threads like:

ELEPHANT.co.uk insurance warning
MCS Insurance in the UK
Insurance with Liverpool Victoria
Modifications and insurance premiums?
UK Cooper S insurance
Insurance Mini Cooper S

And many, many more.

That is good, they must have changed there policy because many members here said they would complain to elephant about this. I have only tried 4 insurance companies. They are Tesco, Elephant, Directline and MINI. They, in my opinion, are the only ones that charge a decent rate for someone of my age (20).

Cheers Paul. I'll get back to practicing using Search. Didnt mean to criticise the search function, more my ability!

No problem. For a popular subject like insurance, it's often wise to go to advanced search and search "titles only" so you get less "noise".

I'd be VERY careful with Elephant, Admiral etc. I was with them and on the phone they "said" I'd be covered, but I read the policy documents and it said I wasn't. So I called them back and twice had managers confirm I wasn't properly insured. So I cancelled.

Try Liverpool Victoria, Axa, Mini Cover and Halifax - they were all competitive. It also depends a lot on your motoring history (claims etc)

Good Luck! I know it's a nightmare as I've been getting quotes for the last 2 months! Finally made my decision today!

Thanks again, all really good points. Currently with elephant and getting worried about their cover after what everyone has said (and from the new found search ability! :-) )

I may end up going with BMW as they seem to get a good reputation everywhere without being too exp.

I'm insured with Sterling Insurance who are just a broker but very good for young drivers/convicted and for modified cars. I've got an agreed value policy as well and they where the cheapest by about £300 on my motor.

As I do a lot of miles (approx 25K p.a), I found that I was been charged a extra premium.
Most insurance companies charge this as soon as you declare that you do more than 12K miles p.a.

However I found Footman James who use AXA to be different. They offered unlimited mileage cover
plus insured all my extras (eg sat nav, chilli ect ect).

tried liverpool victoria but as i am under 25 they couldnt unsure me on a mcs.

the problem i am having is that i will be getting the car at the end of march by which time i will be 21 but a lot of the companies wont give me a quote til i'm 21 (12 march).

tried mini and the quote was £3894, when i explained i'd be 21 when i got the car it went down to £2644!!

got an afternoon on the phone now to all the companies above so fingers crossed someone can get it below £2k

Well, eventually got a deal for much cheapness, with options covered, through AXA.

Everyone, thanks for all your help. I'll buy you all a pint... :-)
