Hi,

Welcome to the board.

It is pretty meaningless comparing quotes from different people, as it depends so much on suburb, no claim bonus etc.

Most of the companies have web sites that let you get a firm quote online, allowing you to input your particular circumstances and compare 4-5 companies in 30 minutes. It is definitely worth doing that, as conditions vary. For instance for me NRMA was cheapest, but for someone in the next suburb with a different rating they may well be the most expensive.

Also, it is worth getting a quote from the BMW insurance company through the dealer. In my experience they are usually pretty competative.

For what it is worth my insurance is NRMA $1150. That will seem expensive to someone living in the bush, or Brisbane or Perth, but will seem ridiculously cheap for some people living in high risk suburbs in Sydney.

Good luck

Robbo

To illustrate the point I'm 36 with max no-claim bonus with my car insured in Quanbeyan and am paying less than $1000 per year for my MCS through BMW Insurance. I'd certainly back the on-line reasearch method. One word of caution ensure that whichever insurance company you go with will repair with the authorised repairer. The last thing you want is a quote shop where the insurer gives the job to whichever panel beater who quotes the least. The authorised repairer will know the ins and outs of MINI repairs as opposed to the Bobs Backyard Repairers.

Thats not too bad... I'd try BMW insurance as they are competitive and are OK with under 25's. First year for me in the S (BMW Insurance - age 23) was $3500 (40% NCB, Hills District post code) which went down to $2300 (50% NCB).

Do take notice of extra excess costs that have to be paid if the driver is under 25 also...

I work in Insurance and let me tell you.. the most important thing is that you have your choice of repairers!!.

The last thing you want is to have some company trying to do the cheapest for deal for an insurance company they have an agreement with on pride and joy. You want to ensure you have the best for your car.

With regards to price, in Melbourne it is a little cheaper for motor insurance.

I am 26 and my car is insured as a business vehicle with Zurich (higher rates apply for business vehicles) for $920. I did a quote with AAMI a couple of months after i had beenon cover with Zurich and the price wqould have dropped to $710 with AAMI.

I'm 30, live in Canberra and have a 2003 MCS insured with AAMI at a cost of $760, but I found a huge difference in premiums.

My wife's car is a capri turbo, in 2002 I got a quote from NRMA to insure it and their quote was the most expensive by far at over $1200. In 2003 I got a quote for the same car, in the same suburb and the quote was the cheapest at $550. Go figure.

Already into my second claim in 4 months (has not been a good period) and the bonus of these cars is they are considered prestige cars, which so far has meant that in both cases the insurers (SGIC and QBE) both sent it to the best of the BMW approved repairers.

When it comes to these cars they don't tend to send you to the cheapest shop in the area, they make sure they take it to an approved repairer due to the specialty nature of the vehicle.
